Community Highlights: Meet Karly Doehla of Kasa Karly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karly Doehla.

Hi Karly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Jewelry has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I was very blessed to have a stepdad who had his own jewelry store I could practice my sales, artistry, client relationships, and everything else it takes to run a business. I started helping him at the store (rather than just playing in everything) around the age of 12. He took me under his wing and taught me how to put together pieces, change watch batteries, clean rings, or even just the simpler side of how to take custom orders. I fell in love with this entire process. Even the part people hate most I loved, helping and bonding with customers. Once I started in sales at his store I realized it was something I was very good at. It didn’t take long for me to spread my wings and start to apply for jobs in sales around 16 years old. I had had so many different sales positions that by the time I turned 21 I had people offering me new opportunities every day. Eventually, I was hired at Lexus as a car salesman and started to experience true sales. Here I was later offered a position as finance manager which was a dream of mine I had since I started. The only downside? I had zero time. Not to mention the way women were treated in this Industry and every customer swore you were only there to sell them. I started to dislike the repetitive workflow, I always caught myself saying in my head “we’re only helping someone else live their dream”. On my one Sunday off of the month, I needed a mental break so badly that I went to go work with my stepdad for the day.

The smell of the store smelt like home, it was my heaven. I quickly started reorganizing shelves, polishing the pieces, helping all the customers, and changing batteries, I felt like I FINALLY felt a true sense of happiness that was missing. My favorite part was always seeing the smile of a happy customer and the race for them to try on their new piece. That day I took a few bolo bracelets with me after my stepdad said “Take some, maybe you can sell them”… I thought to myself you know what? maybe I can… That next day I posted them on my instagram and was sold out of every single piece by lunch. I quickly realized instagram was a place I could reach a larger audience and use my sales/ customer relations. It was like a high. Every sale came with a message of how beautiful each piece was. It was the same feeling I had in the store times ten because they were pieces I sold and relationships I built on my own, for myself. I quickly realized this was my calling. I was almost confused why I didn’t think of it sooner. I was so focused on working a steady job for a feeling of security but at what cost? If I was going to have sleepless nights and work 60 hours a week I wanted to do it for myself. There was no way you could put that same time into anything and it fail… I went back to the store and ordered about 20 more pieces, they all sold by the end of that week. After one month I told myself ” this is it I’m done”. I went against every advice given to stay at Lexus and did the craziest thing ever. I quit. My boss’s exact words to me were ” you’ll never get anywhere in life selling bracelets, grow up”, words that added gas to my fire. During my first year in business, I barely sold enough to get by. I had to move to a different city to afford rent, worked for my stepdad on weekdays, and worked for myself nights and weekends. It was incredibly hard, but I stuck with it. by my second year in business, I quadrupled sales on my own from my bedroom.Life gave me every curve ball and all reasons to quit and I’m so happy I never did. You can now also find Kasa Karly sold in Boutiques across the U.S. as I have expanded into the wholesale market. We have been worn by influencers such as Cindy Prado, Cydney Moreau, Taylor Dome, Silvana Mojica, Vanessa Christine, Reyna Noriega, and so many more. I can only imagine where we will be in a few years. I live by this theory “in the middle, everything looks like a failure” (Kanter’s law) because it absolutely did and definitely wasn’t.

In 2021 I became a mother (right in the middle of all the covid chaos) to my wonderful son Maverick. Bored stuck home and pregnant I created my podcast “Koffee with Karly”. I am thrilled to share that my podcast, was ranked in the top 25% of podcasts on its hosting platform in 2022. You can also now watch Koffee with Karly on YouTube. It’s an honor to know that the hard work and dedication that I have put into producing this show is paying off in such a meaningful way. And, as if that weren’t exciting enough, I am absolutely ecstatic to announce that we will be hosting the very first LIVE Koffee with Karly event on March 9th! This is an incredible opportunity for us to bring women together, offer valuable business advice, and share inspirational stories from some of the most successful women entrepreneurs out there. I can’t wait to see what kind of positive impact we can make when we all come together to support one another! All 60 tickets sold out within a few hours, I can only imagine how fast this is going to scale as we continue. Huge shoutout to Town kitchen and Bar in South Miami for hosting this event and helping bring my vision to life! Available in audio on apple podcast, iHeart Radio, Spotify, google music and more.

I’m particularly grateful to my son, whose arrival into my life inspired me to become the best version of myself. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a business is never a smooth road! When I first started my business, I faced numerous obstacles, including having no capital, not being able to afford rent, and not knowing how to create a website. However, with persistence and determination, I overcame these challenges. I had to be resourceful and creative to find ways to get my business off the ground, such as seeking alternative sources of funding and working from a home office. I used Youtube and bought a lot of courses on Shopify to learn all the tricks I could to have a successful online business. I had to really buckle down it was sink or swim. I always focused on just making enough to afford rent when I first started. In my most recent YouTube video I even talked about the time my car was repossed through his process.

After finally getting on my feet, COVID-19 hit and caused a significant dip in sales. It was a challenging time, but it also gave me the gift of starting my own podcast, which turned out to be a great success. It was a silver lining during an otherwise difficult time.

Funny enough one of my biggest bumps in the road was actually my greatest gift to life, becoming a mom. When I was in the hospital one day after giving birth I checked my phone to see I had almost 35 pending orders. It was then that I realized I had to quickly figure out how on Earth I would balance being a mom and building a brand.

I would find myself feeling extremely guilty for the amount I worked or the days I had to bring work home. I later became a single mother. It was overwhelming, and I had to figure out how I would do it all. Without my support group, I would be nowhere. They helped me through the toughest of times, and I’m grateful for their support. Despite all the hurdles, I’m proud to say that I have multiple successful businesses today.

Eventually, I found ways to flow through being a mom, building my businesses, a podcast, mentoring students, a social life, and keeping my sanity. All bumps in the road are learning experiences, this one taught me to have patience with myself and learn to be present more. Moms ‘rock!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Beginning in 2018, I founded Kasa Karly, to create a company that has quality pieces that followed emerging trends while still being unique to their owner, YOU!

Kasa Karly encourages using our jewelry not only as an accessory but also as a form of self-expression. When buying a piece here in jewelry heaven, we want our angels to select something that flaunts their one-of-a-kind beauty.

In the fashion world, you are never stuck with one identity. We specialize in carefully selected high-quality gold filled pieces that our Angels can wear according to their mood, the season, or current fashion trend.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
As a Miami native, born and raised, I have a deep appreciation for everything this city has to offer. I’ve watched the city grow and evolve over the years, and it’s been exciting to see how it has become a cultural melting pot, welcoming people from all over the world. Growing up in Miami, I’ve developed a love for the vibrant and diverse communities, and I’m proud to call this city my home. There is always something new and exciting to explore. I’m grateful for the memories and experiences I’ve had in Miami, and I look forward to making many more in the years to come while eating all the croquetas.
