Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Dee.
Hi Alice, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! Thank you for interviewing me, I’m Alice Dee, South Florida’s Emo Slutty Girlfriend. As a child/teenager, I was always into the arts. Whether it be drawing, making clothing, performing on a stage, participating in musical extracurricular activities, etc…. I was always making art. Eventually, as I got older, I started exploring and studying queer history in my free time and therefore discovered Drag. It was a combination of all the things I grew up with that gave me happiness and gave life a meaning. Since then, I have stuck with it and never been happier.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I have struggled with personal family dilemmas and occurrences because of my love and passion for the art form. At the end of the day, it has made me into a stronger queer person and artist, it also helped me to not take common day-to-day things for granted and appreciate every small thing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an alternative burlesque queer drag artist based in Miami. I do have a few variety acts such as silk and feather fan dancing. As stated, before I’m known for being an alternative artist, bringing non-conventional drag to a stage (whether it be the music, style, or performance). I’m also known for being a drag artist that has infiltrated the burlesque scene. You can find me at bars all over South Florida such as Georgie’s Alibi, Gramps, Kill Your Idol, and more!
What does success mean to you?
I think success comes to one when they achieve a goal, they have set for themselves, whether it be long-term or short-term. I think there’s no concrete way to define it though since everyone thrives for different things in their lives.
