Life & Work with Joyce Hetherington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Hetherington.

Hi Joyce, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved cooking, and my love and knowledge of food I owe to my mom, who was a caterer. During the pandemic, like many other people, I started making sourdough. I loved the process so much that it became an emotional outlet. Between my new love for baking bread and my knowledge of food, I decided to open a kitchen and retail location. I primarily use stone-ground flour and ancient wheat like Emmer and Einkorn, which add multiple health benefits. Early on in our business, we decided to start selling charcuterie boards because nothing goes better with bread than cured meats and tasty cheeses! In the two years we have been open, we have continued to grow and add new items as well as catering services.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As any business owner can tell you, success isn’t a straight line. Yes, there have been challenges, but there have also been huge accomplishments. I’m proud of all the progress that we have made and I look forward to many more years of making my clients hearts happy and bellies full!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I consider myself a food artist. My passion is making food that not only looks beautiful, but also tastes amazing. I love to hand design my sourdough and use all-natural food coloring such as chocolate, beetroot, blue spirulina to create works of art that you won’t find anywhere else.

I specialize in sourdough bread, sweets, and charcuterie, and most of my sales are from pre-orders and catering. I believe that my style sets me apart in an over-saturated industry, and I am proud that my business is continuing to grow in its third year.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love to collaborate with other businesses! I believe that incredible things can happen if we support each other, and I encourage anyone who is looking to collaborate to reach out to me.
