Daily Inspiration: Meet Ziggy Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ziggy Flores.

Ziggy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began writing poetry in high school around 2010. Began performing my work a year after and from then, I never stopped. As I was getting older, I found comfort in my style and always wanted to show off. While Instagram was my tool to do both poetry and express myself in my style, I was being seen by people I didn’t know were watching. Over the years I have been discovered by some of the most well-known brands. Just this past year has there been an immense amount of opportunity granted to me. I have been blessed to say I have been a freelance model and do everything myself, while still having the ability to use my words through poetry form in some of the opportunities that have risen. Brands I’ve modeled, created content, or generally collaborated with: Skyy Vodka, Urban Outfitters, Puma, Listerine w/ Johnson & Johnson, Amazon Fashion, Banana Republic, Kenneth Cole, Kipling, Google, and the list goes on.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some struggles of figuring out how to do everything on my own without an assistant or help of some sort. At one point I was booked for six brands all in the matter of two months and doing all the paperwork, the content, and traveling for some brands; I came to a peak of stress. However, the way I managed was being cautious of my time and utilizing every minute I had to delicate to each task, one day at a time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My most accomplished work is my poetry. Writing for so long has allowed the space to grow and learn. I spent two years in D.C. before moving back to Miami, where I performed more times than I can count. I was motivated to write a new poem every month for a year to master the art of spoken word, and I did it. That’s what I’m most proud of. I have the ability to write a poem in a matter of 15 minutes and instantly begin the memorization process. I stand out because I speak about things that may be uncomfortable that people are afraid to express. I speak from experience more than anything and that’s where my poet name comes from; being truthful. @theepoetictruth

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I used to fight depression as a kid. I fought my thought process more times than I can count. That motivated me to write and express all my hard truths I couldn’t face at the time. I never wanted my emotions to get in the way of my work so I used it as ammo to push through and live a healthy, thought-out life I know I deserve.
