Life & Work with Vaiah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vaiah.

Hi Vaiah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been in love with music since I was a little girl. I knew I wanted to be a singer since I can remember. I started giving mini concerts/performances at every family gathering I had when I was maybe 5 or more and had my first vocal lesson when I was 15.

After I turned 17 and graduated high school in Cumana, Venezuela, I moved to New York City to pursue my dream. There, I studied Musical Theatre at The New York Film Academy and fell in love with it so much that decided to get my degree. Moved to Miami, FL 4 years after living in NY and received my bachelor’s in Musical Theatre. After graduation, I pursued Theatre for a while, but I realized even though I loved it, I was not fulfilling my dream because I wanted to be a recording artist.

That is when I made the decision to pursue music full-time and released my 1st single on July 2021 called Hasta Abajo. Ever since then, I have released several singles including: No Quiero Que Me Ames (NQQMA), Don’t Let Me Go, and an EP called Agosto 7.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Making music is beautiful, but it is a creative process that requires help, a team, and money (especially when being an Independent Artist). When I first started, it was hard to find the resources and the right people that had the same dream and wanted to help me with my projects. But somehow the Universe always makes things work out for you, and I have been able to find the right people and resources along the way while having a family and friends who always supported me from the very beginning.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter born and raised in Cumana, Venezuela. I am proud of my work as a creative artist and simply want to continue sharing my experiences through my lyrics with the world. I want people to hear my music and for them to feel safe and to use it as a getaway from their everyday madness.

I believe that what sets me apart from the rest is my story. I have had this dream since I can remember and I have never given up. I come from a very small town where having a career in music is not even a possibility, but I did not let that defeat me and decided to leave it all behind at a very young age (family, friends, home) to make these dreams a reality.

Another reason I believe makes me unique is that I am not afraid to experiment with music. I sing Reggaeton, Dance Hall, R&B, Pop. I am not an artist who can fit in only one box or one genre. I love music and I do not want to stay attached to just one style.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
That everything at the end ends up working out. Just stay positive. Do not let any negative intrusive thoughts take over your mind, and trust that everything that is for you will not pass you. Meditate, work out, go out dancing, and enjoy life to the fullest even in the hardest times, because life is too short and we must live it to the fullest!
