Today we’d like to introduce you to Ari Smith.
Hi Ari, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been a creative. I was always that girl who has a camera. I found so much beauty in capturing and creating visual stories. I’m a girl with a camera and a vision.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Tapping into creativity isn’t an easy journey especially when you decide to share it with others. It started as a difficult journey because I was forcing myself to fit a mold that wasn’t for me to begin with. It wasn’t until I learned and understood that creativity is an individual expression; then, the journey became much easier.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a visual conceptualist! I love to take photos and videos and tell stories. I primarily stick to the beauty/hair space because in those spaces it’s hard to find beauty that represents me.
For example, I love to take a simple wash day hair routine and turn it into a beautiful piece of cinematography to show that beauty is in everything, not just what the media wants us to see.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I don’t really watch TV! I rarely know what’s new. I’m one to stick to my oldie black sitcoms and legal shows.
