Conversations with Cuddy Rex

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cuddy Rex.

Cuddy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Wow, well, once upon a time… – Just Kidding lol I got my first taste of this business in 2009 when I got the opportunity to host a fashion show. I was the master of ceremonies for the evening and I introduced models, different designers and interacted with the audience. I loved every moment of it. I did so well that someone who attened the show asked me to host an artist showcase for them soon after. From there, IT WAS ON! Later on that year, because I was still on a high from doing these events, I purchased my first DJ setup. I always burned CDs throughout high school, now it was time to take it to another level.

I started hosting and DJing my own events, many of my colleges functions and being in school is how I got my first internship at a radio station. The rest was history!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has been as smooth as a freshly paved road with speed bumps every few feet haha.

You can never predict a storm in this industry.

Some of the struggles on the way go from financial, because as an intern (at that time) you made absolutely NO money! I was also in school, so making sacrifices was the name of the game many days and nights.

Being the underdog was also a big challenge because I was in the #1 market (New York City) at the number one radio company (iHeartRadio) so there was a lot of work that wasn’t given credit for, many times I was overlooked.

I was also fired a bunch of times, left and right for marching to the beat of my own drum, and it didn’t always turn out well. So being able to bounce back after facing the adversity was definitely a challenge. It will test you ambition, hunger, and will.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I wear a few hats, First I’m a DJ. I DJ clubs/events and radio.

I am a host events.

I produce shows. I’ve produced shows for the world-famous DJ Clue, Ebro In The Morning, DJ SussOne in the radio realm. I also produced a show for SnapChat called The Dreamers House, which I also hosted some episodes.

I’m a comedian as well. I’ve curated my own comedy shows and have done a number of stand-up shows, I’ve had comedic roles in music videos, and I do online content such as skits and parodies.

One of my most proudest moments and my prized possession is a plaque I received from Epic records for my contributions on Futures song ‘Mask Off.’ The record went 4 times platinum and I was part of the journey of getting it played in the clubs, lounges, and on radio.

On the topic of radio, I am also most proud of recently being given the opportunity to have my own show on Sunday nights on iHeartRadio. I’m on Rappin Lounge Radio at 7pm – Smoove Sundays.

(Shameless plug.)

What sets me apart from others is the fact that I do it all! There aren’t many if any of these occupations that do the same ones I do! There aren’t many Comedians that can ALSO DJ. There few EmCees that can produce a radio show; I do it all! And that’s what makes me different from anyone else.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is God! God makes it all happen. I’m not a super religious person but I have faith and believe in a higher being. After that HEALTH! Health is so important; without that, you can’t do ANYTHING!

Right along with the physical health is mental health; BEING HAPPY very important to me as well because no matter how much success you reach and accolades you receive, if you’re not happy with yourself, none of it matters.
