Today we’d like to introduce you to Giselle Chusan.
Hi Giselle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a passion for creating content, my first introduction to capturing memories was with photography. My interest in photography made it a bit easier for me to transition into the film world. Since HS my dream was to become a YouTuber and create videos of the different countries I would visit to show others the world that they can explore if they want to step out of their normal lives. Since that didn’t really work out for me, I put it off to the side and continued my journey and got a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Florida State University. My last semester I had a trip planned to Europe and that was going to be my start into finally creating vlogs but unfortunately, the pandemic hit in 2020, and those plans got canceled. With so much time on my hands and not being able to find a job, I found an escape in making travel tip videos and recreating viral trends. That also didn’t work out too well for me but one day the South Florida Fair was doing a drive-through fair eats, and I thought to myself this would be something cool to post on TikTok. Like who doesn’t love fair food The video was of me ordering the food and showing it, next thing you know that video hits half a million views and I gain almost 10k followers. After that, I did another video at a restaurant, and it also performed very well. I told myself that this might be the niche I try and it worked. I changed my name to Foodies With GG and started to help local businesses get their name out there. Now I am able to live my dream and have transitioned my page to be food, travel, and lifestyle which is why I changed the name to Explore with GG.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Staying consistent is very hard when you first start; since you are learning as you go it gets easy to get in your head about how videos are performing. I think it would have been nice to have friends who had been in the space when I started so I can pick at the brains how others have done with me, but I feel like that is why I am so grateful as to what I have been able to build. There has been very little guidance and just figuring it out on my own.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create content that revolves around restaurant recommendations and travel. I am known as a foodie and what sets me apart from others is the style of my videos. I wanted to be my own brand which is why I am in every video. When I first started this, I noticed that the majority of food content creators only showed the food and added music to the background. I wanted to be different, and I did that by adding my voice and face to all my videos. I am proud of being able to step out of my comfort zone but the thing that I am the most proud of is creating of community of explorers that can make a business x3 their sales in one week from one video. I am so grateful that I am able to help these small businesses get the recognition they deserve.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was always very artistic. I loved drawing and took my camera with me everywhere. I was also an athlete and even have a black belt in Taekwondo. I was always the leader and always wanted to discover and try new things. My family and I also traveled a lot which helped me develop the personality I have when it comes to understanding other cultures.
