Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Reyes.
Hi Ricardo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
The idea of the creation of Rey Roi started back in 2018, my last year of high school; I took my first steps about making a brand and create unique pieces of clothing to share my art and my perspective of the modern fashion. In 2021, I partnered with two good friends, Jonathan Evangelista and Carlos Bernstein; together we were able to develop the idea and each one of us took an important role in being able to make this a reality. A few months later, we gave it a name to the brand and the concept was created. In 2022, Rey Roi was finally launched. The name “Rey Roi” was inspired from two Latin languages, Spanish and French, “Rey” from Spanish, and “Roi” from French, the two words combined mean ‘King.’ This name has a special meaning for me because in a way it refers to my name. I have been inspired by a lot of brands and designers that I look up to and that is what motivates to keep going and possible one day be able to work with great talented designers and learn from them, make collaborations, and with other brands as well. This is just the beginning; I have a lot of ideas I am working on with my partners and take keep looking ahead where we want to be in a future.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Any new idea you create from zero is going to have ups and downs but that is the journey and the beauty of all this. As young entrepreneur mistakes are going to happen and that is fine what matters is to have faith in what you do, not matter what happens. When you believe and grab into that desire to accomplish your goal, you will. There is a phrase I like, and it goes “He who perseveres reaches” and I go by that because I have experience it before, but the most important thing is that you learn from your mistakes, trust the process and you will become better at what you do.
As you know, we’re big fans of Rey Roi. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Rey Roi is the first brand I ever created. I have never felt so proud of all my hard work and from my partners, we have done together. This is a project that I want to see grow and how it could become a very successful brand, but I am happy to be able to share this with the audience so they can be part of this, support the brand in any way, and the young talent. This is the dream of three young entrepreneurs that have been working hard and trying to accomplish something special that could be something that not even our expectations can reach; this is just matter of time and keep developing the idea to reach our goals.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I always think the best way to learn something is by doing it. Listening to some advice for someone experienced is important but taking action is key. Like I mentioned before, I got inspired by many brands and well-known designers in the world; I made research, read a lot about the fashion industry, everything I can possibly learn I take it, but the question is How can I succeed in this business competing with all these brands and designers? And that is when the creativity and strategies come in place.
