Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Torres.
Hi Samantha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I go by the name “Cookie”. My journey started back in 2010 when I first started dancing. This was around the time “Jerking” was popular and there was not many females doing it, so I wanted to be an inspiration that we are capable to do this dance. I was day in and out after school watching YouTube videos trying to learn this dance. Once I became more comfortable, that’s when I started to put myself out more going to events, and decided to make a YouTube channel to showcase myself more. My channel was created about a year after in 2011, post new videos here and there after school. I enjoyed it so much and other people did as well that I kept posting more and more dance videos. A few years later the “Bronx Whine” was becoming popular, and I decided to make a practice video and post it on my channel. This is when my YouTube really took off. This practice video gained traction and I got over 200,000+ views. I uploaded a few videos and continued YouTube until I took a break and wanted to focus on other hobbies around 2014. I was off YouTube from uploading but I still watched gaming creators like DashieXP and CoryxKenshin. This was when I started to grow more interest and wanted to try venturing out into a different niche in 2017. Around this time, I wanted to try vlogging & skits. I really enjoyed it and gained a little traction again but not as much as I had before my long break. One day I sat down and was thinking what are my other interest? Who and why do I watch, who I watch on YouTube? That’s when I thought, “Gaming”! Beginning of 2019, I started to upload and go live on YouTube being my first debut playing “Borderlands”. I fell in love with the live streaming aspect, being that I can play and possibly connect with people in real-time. It came to the point when every other night I would stream on YouTube either alone or with a few friends playing random different games like Fortnite and GTA 5. By the end of 2019, beginning of 2020 is when I started to date my current boyfriend who was also a dancer and gamer. In 2020 around the time the pandemic was started to grow is when my boyfriend introduced me to Twitch. This time I tried giving it a chance and it changed my path ever since. Now almost 2 and a half years later I’m still streaming on Twitch and now uploading constant gaming videos on my YouTube channel. I love the journey I’ve been on and I’m still trying to grow each and every day!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a complete smooth road. There have been many challenges within myself questioning if it’s worth it, will I go anywhere. When this happens, I have to remember where I started and why I started. Because I love the craft of content creating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in content creating. I specifically make gaming content and enjoy it. My most proudest moment would be a Tik Tok I made referencing and imitating GTA game characters. This video made over 1 million views and really grew my channel. I believe what sets me apart from other gaming creators is the diverse background I have which is dance and acting. With these backgrounds, I can integrate it into my content in some way.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years I can really see gaming being the biggest thing we know. It is already growing massively, and it is truly amazing. I can see more corporates and organizations specially for gaming. Even gaming creators being well known and doing great things like movie stars do. Gaming will be a huge trend than what it already is.
