Exploring Life & Business with Karen Slosaski of PinkLady Marketing +Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Slosaski.

Hi Karen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Life took me here! While majoring in something completely unrelated, I picked up marketing duties for a local South FL TV show and eventually got into travel + event hosting for different media outlets. Hosting a product or service on-camera, as well as directing or producing videos would be my true passion. Years passed, and I developed my work in video production- with hosting, script writing, storyboard planning, editing, and more. Before social media was easily accessible, video marketing was my first love! Back then, video production was pretty costly, and I wanted to expand marketing solutions beyond the video sector. So, I partnered up and invested into a print shop where I picked up graphic design and learned about print marketing. The print business was challenging to navigate, and I eventually transitioned to incorporate web & graphic design services, expanding my brand PINKADY MARKETING + DESIGN! This is my platform where I could offer business clients a plethora of marketing solutions, combining traditional printing with modern digital marketing options.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were so many struggles along the way. Being a new mom while operating a new brick & mortar print business that I had no clue about was one of them! It was also a struggle to transition away from the comfortable video production realm and into the unfamiliar print and graphic design realm. It thought I’d been able to keep the same kind of clientele when in fact, the two worlds did not mesh as I imagined. It was a “one-or-the-other” trade-off: I strayed away from my true passion (video marketing) while discovering another (print /graphic design). At the time, my partners and we weren’t seeing eye to eye on everything, and debt was accumulating. We decided to amicably part ways. Even though the print business was tough to maintain afloat, I couldn’t leave my clients hanging. I had to reinvent & rediscover. I took on a digital marketing internship even though I already had my graduate degree and experience. Dissolving my partnership was emotionally and mentally challenging. Starting over with negative equity was nail-biting. Juggling my clients on the side, with a full-time low-wage internship and a toddler- was exhausting! But through all scary things and struggles comes the development of your dreams when you don’t even realize it’s happening. All those challenges helped me rebrand & create PinkLady Marketing. I’m thankful for each struggle that allowed me to have a new perspective and thicker skin. The BIGGEST challenge I’m facing now comes after a shocking Stage 4 Cancer diagnosis. My healing is now my focus, and I have to take 3 steps back sometimes. Doing chemo and juggling projects means I take on less clients and only the projects worth my time (literally!) I’m blessed with amazing loyal clients who are more like family and support me & my business through this journey. I also vowed to MAKE CREATIVITY A HEALING PART OF MY JOURNEY- and that’s where healing + my business intersect when I can harmoniously create for others.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I envisioned PinkLady Marketing long ago but never thought I’d actually live it. The brand originates from the concept of “health is wealth,” and I strive to keep local small, women-operated & mid-sized businesses healthy through consistent marketing solutions. We’re able offer video content creation, video hosting, print, or digital marketing at reasonable pricing, with a dedicated guidance you won’t get elsewhere. From Direct Mailing to Websites with built-in SEO to Digital Content Creation, Brochures, Signage or Car Wraps…to Business Planning and QuickBooks setup! Almost everything marketing-related that a business needs- we can offer. We work synergistically with an’ in-house marketing staff or directly with business owners. We also do apparel (screen print + embroidery). I have a special passion for working with women-owned and small businesses because that niche can benefit the most from our guidance, and I can relate to their struggles. Our clients are preschools, home or construction services, beauty industry boss ladies, real estate companies, restaurants, startups, and everything in between. We have an amazing team of creatives we can include in any project to meet a client’s marketing or branding needs. I love helping my clients in their branding creation and early business journey or growth campaigns. There’s something magical in helping my clients gain the confidence and develop their vision- which many are living to the fullest today. I’m happy I could be a part of those stories as a supporting factor through my business platform!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Fulfilling a deeper purpose matters most to me! It’s not the marketing project or assignment. It’s the client interaction. It’s the way I’m able to reach out and impact others with positivity, guidance, and empowerment when needed. Every client has a place in my heart beyond the scope of the project or completion of a task. It’s the human nature behind it and the ability to encourage my clients to fulfill their purpose- that motivates me every day! It’s about the legacy we can all leave behind.
