Exploring Life & Business with Toni Counts of Innovation Counts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Counts.

Hi Toni, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Being an entrepreneur is something that always interested me. Once I obtained the freedom of being my own boss, I continued to put the work in to ensure I would never have go back to working on someone else’s dream and could continue working on mine. I started with my own bookkeeping business, servicing high level real estate investors, giving them the security and confidence to grow their portfolios and businesses. I take pride in my work and am very passionate about numbers and how they tell a story of financial fate. I surrounded myself around people that I aspired to be like. Many of my clients are very successful entrepreneurs and I am in a constant state of learning and developing just by being in close proximity.

I recently had the opportunity to expand my bookkeeping services into a larger scale operation where I have an entire team of bookkeepers, managers, and now an onboarding specialist. This growth allows me to serve an entire customer base across the US. I really enjoy growing the technical skills of our bookkeepers and the leadership skills of our managers, it is truly a rewarding feeling to be able to provide job opportunities to so many others doing something I am passionate about. I am excited to see where this new level of entrepreneurship will take me as I transition out of the technician role into a true entrepreneur.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never a smooth road if it is something that you truly desire. Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak. If you are unwilling to sacrifice sleep, hanging out, or watching Netflix, then this is not for you. Giving up has to be non-negotiable. One of my struggles was not having enough time in a day to balance work and home life. I’m working on scaling so that I can have some of that personal time back. Building and growing a business will consume a lot of your time, hustle is a season – not a lifestyle – that’s why it is so important as you grow your business, grow it in mind that someone else will run it eventually and start developing the blueprint as soon as you possibly can.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Innovation Counts provides bookkeeping services to several industries such as real estate investing, construction, coaching/consulting, e-commerce, among many others. We pair your business with a virtual bookkeeping team to organize your transactions for receiving the maximized business deductions, so that you can focus your time doing what you do best, growing your business.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
One of my biggest supporters is my husband, Derrick. Anytime I have any self doubt, he knows exactly what to say to get me back on my game. I also have some very special clients that have poured their knowledge and time in to me to help me grow into the business owner that I am today. Clients that give me referrals, these are the best compliments! Last but not least, I would not be where I am without my hard working team giving me 110% – having the support of like-minded individuals is a real necessity for growth.
