Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Guzman.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is basically is I was born and raised in Miami Florida in a Cuban household. My mother and father started a business together training and selling police dogs and personal protection dogs. Born in 1993, I grew up around many different types of animals exotic and domesticated my whole life. My passion has always been to work with animals. I always said since I kid, I want to take over the family business in the future and take it to the next level. Though we’ve always specialized in police dogs and dogs for families. I found my niche in providing dogs to high-end clients, such as celebrities… including singers, actors, and athletes. Through learning through my dad, the skills of training a dog, and my skills of networking and not only obtaining this type of clientele, but also building relationships with my clients our business has grown in a different way. Over the years it has been a blessing seeing from where I started to where I have gone, and this is only the beginning. I have many plans in the future that are in the works to expand more and carry on the legacy of my family in the dog world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Just like anything, a business has its highs and lows. I feel like a lot of my struggle when I was in my early twenties was because of my immaturity. Living in Miami at that age, you want to party, hang with friends and aren’t as focused as you should be. So, some of my struggles were that I missed out on opportunities that I could have accomplished at a younger age. As I got a bit older, I grew more mature and realized the service I provide is something to be proud of and to be taken serious. I realized when you do what you love, you don’t work a day in your life. And I love what I do.
As you know, we’re big fans of Metro Dade K9 Services / Garrison & Sloan inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Metro Dade K9 is the business that started it all. We provide dogs and services for law enforcement agencies, private corporations, family protection, schools, celebrities, athletes, and business professionals. My role is overseeing everything that goes on at MDK9 and I’m also one of the lead certified trainers and handlers. Mdk9 is known for its incredible reputation for providing impeccable service and placing the right dog in your home, business, or agency. Garrison & Sloan is our sister agency which is where we provide explosive and narcotic-trained dogs for services. We currently hold all of the cruise line industry throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Not only do we provide services for the cruise line, but we also provide for the NFL, MLB, NBA, Olympics, and other major events. I currently am a certified trainer and certified explosive/narcotic K9 handler… I believe our services, guarantees, and reputation set aside from many others. We’ve been around 35+ years and show no signs of slowing down. Our dogs are loved, well cared for, and well-trained. In the K9 law enforcement world, our dogs are known as the “Guzman dog.” This slogan was made by the law enforcement agencies because many can tell the difference between dogs and when they see a well-trained dog, the phrase “that’s a guzman dog” became solidified as one of our slogans. I’m honestly very proud at the fact that are name, reputation, and services have withheld over so many years. It goes to show we are doing something right, and I’m looking forward to what the next 35 years bring.
What do you think about happiness?
Being able to do what I love daily, waking up, and knowing my career is what I’ve always dreamt of and wanted. Being able to work alongside my family and animals. That is my true happiness.
