Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Lewis Francis.
Hi Kiana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Kiana! I am a content creator, artist, and travel enthusiast. I am a Jamaican-American, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I grew up going to a Greek-Orthodox school where I learned the Greek language and culture which has impacted and shaped my life in a big way. I moved to Palm Beach around 2012 and started high school in a very rural area. It was a huge culture shock! I graduated from FAU with a bachelor’s degree in Biology.
I’ve always felt like I wanted to share my journey with people and that is why I started creating content. At first, it was just satire or casual pictures. After realizing how many people asked for styling/beauty tips or were interested in my stories showing my everyday life, I started taking social media seriously. So seriously that I changed my career and now work as an influencer/content creator and a full-time Social Media Coordinator. I have always been a creative person and I am super grateful I get work in a creative field!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall the road has been smooth even though there were some speed bumps along the way. My biggest obstacle I would say is the ever-changing algorithm on different platforms. I also believe that the algorithm sometimes favors certain creators over others based on what they look like and not necessarily the work. Sometimes it is very discouraging especially when you work hard to put out quality content and it doesn’t perform as well as it deserves. I try not to stress over these things, I focus on creating content that brings me and others joy!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make beauty, fashion, and travel content. It brings me so much pride to see my ideas come to life. My beauty content contains everything from makeup to nail art to skincare. My fashion content contains GRWMs, styling tips, and fashion trends. And my travel content consists of storytelling, speaking in different languages, and cultural experiences. I love that my niches have versatility and grow as I grow as a person.
I am most proud of my recent voiceover travel vlogs. I went to Greece for a month and documented the entire trip! It has become a way to share my experience and inspire others to travel also! I am also extra proud of a couple of partnership opportunities that I’ve been blessed with this year. I worked with Revlon and created two videos for their Colorstay campaign and 5-in-1 Skin Awaken campaign earlier this year. And for a sneak peek, I have some projects with Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty going live soon!
Honestly, I think I set myself apart from others, for simply being me. I feel like I am a unique individual with unique experiences and my content reflects that.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
This sounds so cliche however I want to encourage VoyageMIA readers to follow their dreams. Your life is yours and if you don’t chase your goals no one else will for you. I feel like I’m just realizing that you don’t have to confine yourself to what society expects of you and you can honestly obtain anything your heart desires. As I grow in my relationship with God and stay focused on my goals, I keep receiving opportunities I never imagined were even possible.
