Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Benatar.
Hi Gabriela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was born and raised in Caracas Venezuela but Miami was always a big part of my life, I went to school in Boca Raton and move back to Caracas where I graduated as an illustrator at the Caracas Institute of design. I was always drawn to art because it runs in my family. My aunt is an artist and my mom was an artist too so I got to play with paint since I was a little kid.
Growing up in Venezuela surrounded by nature, plants, and flowers were always an inspiration to me and that’s where I get my style from. In 2016 I came back to Miami to paint my first mural in Wynwood during art Basel, and since that day I fell in love with large-scale art and decided to turn the streets into my studio. I’ve done murals in LA, San Diego, Tampa, and Miami.
Today I run my own Business called BENATART, where I paint everything from kids’ rooms to huge walls on Buildings, I also do small-scale jobs like surfboards, helmets, skateboards, regular canvas, or pretty much anything that can be intervened.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can say that I’ve had my ups and down but Miami has been very generous with me when it comes to my career.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an illustrator but I like to call myself an artist. I specialize in big-scale handmade murals and I’m known for my tropical full-color botanical style. moving here with literally nothing was a big decision for me and I can say that it makes me proud to look back and see how far I’ve come and how much I’ve learned and grown.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as being able to work and make money out of something that you love and that makes you happy.
