Meet Anna Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Lee.

Hi Anna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We are a small family owned Asian Market with a focus on K-Pop merchandise and Korean groceries in the middle of Little Havana in Miami. We started the idea of Asian-Mart during covid-19 after we lost our jobs and after having our whole family locked-down at home for a year. Throughout the pandemic , we needed a concept that would be deemed “Essential Business” to avoid another shut-down. Also, since we do cook and eat Asian cuisine every day, this was a great fit for us at home. One other challenge which presented an opportunity for us was the lack of good Asian food in Miami. We can now cook our own authentic “good stuff”

Through this year-and-a-half process, we have added other family members to grow and bring fresh ideas in like a Boba tea bar inside the market, a ramyun bar, and fresh Kimchi by the jars. Each one of our family members contribute their unique talents and ideas which makes our business diverse and cool!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth?
Opening a business is never easy, especially during a pandemic. Tasks, like getting permits and licenses were not easy since everything was remote. Working with family present challenges as well. Sometimes you can clash over the small things or simply not be aligned on strategy. Stuff like this takes time to work out, but can also present the opportunity to problem solve together and build stronger relationships.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That the owner is Korean but can Dance some mean Salsa and Bachata at Viernes Culturales in Calle 8 Little Havana.
