Joseph, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The food industry is in our DNA, tracing back to Italy our ancestors were butchers and when they came to New York we owned and operated butcher shops. I have a passion for food and loved to innovate and create new items. Prepared foods is what I wanted our business to evolve into and that’s what we did in Florida. Our main thing is prepared foods, restaurant quality food without the restaurant price. We have high standards for all of our products as well as our team. We treat our team like family and work hard to ensure an enjoyable experience for our staff. We have great relationships and work closely with our suppliers to ensure we have the best quality products at very reasonable prices for our customers to enjoy. The customer’s experience is a top priority for us and it’s not just about coming to Joseph’s for a meal but for a memorable experience through the connection our team makes with our guests.

Has it been a smooth road?
I haven’t heard of any entrepreneur having a smooth road and our story is no different. There was a lot of obstacles and challenges to overcome for us to get to this point and we work hard every day to develop a good team and train our employees to deliver a memorable experience to our customers. We’re always working on new items and recipes to keep our store fresh and that will never stop. Now that my sons are involved in the business it has been a tremendous help and we embrace the struggle of building a sustainable business that can be a part of the neighborhoods that we’re in for decades to come.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We’re a full-service gourmet market with Italian roots. We didn’t call ourselves an Italian market because we serve a wide array of cuisine and products. We have high standards for all of our departments and we have a treasure hunt element about us that we have different specials on a daily basis for our customers to take advantage of. We sell top quality premium produce, the best quality meat items, fresh seafood delivered daily, a New York style deli, a pizzeria, scratch bakery, wine and cheese, specialty grocery items and our main thing is our Prepared Foods. Most retailers incorporate prepared foods as a section in their deli department, at Joseph’s our Prepared Foods is our crown jewel located in the center of our store where you can get chef prepared meals at a fraction of what it would cost at a restaurant with comparable quality. We have several cold options for you to take home and eat or we have hot buffet and carving station options that are ready to eat. Our competitive advantage, besides our superior food, is our customer service and connection that we make with our customers. Most of our team knows our customers on a first name basis and the element of hospitality and making our guests feel good about shopping at Joseph’s is our secret sauce.
