Meet Alexandre Llobet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandre Llobet.

Hi Alexandre, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My interest in photography started a long time ago. I was about 3 years old when my parents got me a small toy camera. It could actually take pictures, but they never got me film. Photography was mostly a passion throughout my whole life. I’ve been in New York City pretty much my whole life and that is where my photography endeavor began.

In the 90s I sold some of my mountain and rustic pictures to Bloomingdale’s in NYC and they were used for a promotion for a new Ralph Lauren collection of bed sheets. That was pretty exciting.

In the mid-2000s I learned that I could sell digital pictures on the internet. I gave it a try and my images started selling.

Soon after I realized I needed people in my stock photos so that they could sell more. So, I found a few willing subjects and added them to my stock work. After a short while, some models started asking me my pricing for shoots, so my model test business began.

Also, some actors were asking me about doing headshots, so I started doing that also.

I eventually moved to NJ and had a studio space in Hoboken, NJ which had wonderful natural light. I shot there for quite a few years.

Eventually, the pandemic hit, and I was forced to not use my studio for a few months. This prompted me to start thinking of something new.

Many of the models I was shooting with also were located in Miami. One of my makeup artists also came from Miami. So, I thought I’d change my environment to explore something very new to me.

So here I am in Fort Lauderdale, shooting people on the beach and doing headshots. Looking to grow my business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely not a smooth road. It’s always a struggle to find new clients. Probably the most difficult part is structuring the business properly. Surprisingly, a photography business is not mostly about photography. The business part is the most complicated part.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in shooting fashion model tests most of the time. There is an occasional campaign, which I love doing also. I also love doing headshots, especially actors. With any of these types of photography, I enjoy the challenge of getting the “ultimate” shot for the client. I think I’m known mostly for my clean looks in my photographs. That’s something that most of my subjects tell me they like about my work.

A clean commercial look is what I strive for in all my work. I’m still learning at every shoot.

What do you think about luck?
I think I’ve had some good luck, especially with meeting and shooting with some people in the entertainment world. For instance, in the 80s I was lucky enough to meet and become good acquaintances with the great rock guitarist Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple. We used to all play soccer together and then hang out eating pizza, etc. It was great fun and got to meet a lot of cool people.

Now with my photography business, I’ve met some cool people also. For example, years ago I shot with Shannon Janai Thornton many times for headshots and other things. She is quite beautiful and so nice too. Years later she is now in a TV show called P-Valley and doing quite well.

I’ve also shot with Masha Lund, a celebrity model, many times and our work has appeared in many magazines.

During the pandemic, I shot with Irish violinist Gregory Harrington and our image was used for his album cover for the Hours Suite by Philip Glass. Also, I recently shot with wonderful entrepreneur Danielle Moinet (aka. Summer Rae, pro-WWE wrestler).

So, I think for the most part I’ve had good luck and I hope to meet many more people in my career.
