Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel and Guisela Peckman.
Daniel and Guisela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My wife and I have always wanted to open a Bed and Breakfast in Colorado, where we spent 16 years of our lives raising 3 children. When we were forced to move out of the cold and elevation due to my wife’s health, we selected southern Florida as the next leg of life’s journey. After building a decent Colorado real estate portfolio over a dozen years or so, we determined it was a good time to sell. When speaking to our broker about purchasing replacement real estate in South Florida, he told us about this little boutique hotel he thought the owners would sell for the right price. Witnessing our dream magically manifest before our eyes, we jumped at the chance. We have not looked back. It has been a wonderful experience so far!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth? No. Moving our family from the home we came to know and love in Denver was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Also, while buying a major piece of property and a small business is never easy, the overall purchase and transition from the old owners of the hotel was particularly challenging. But both my wife and I have had to struggle through many major personal challenges growing up, and we figured we were both mentally prepared to handle whatever was thrown at us. Hurricane Irma was something we could never have been prepared for (you don’t see too many hurricanes in Colorado…), and you can imagine what it did to the tourist industry this past fall! However, thank God we are both devoted and hard working. We try our best to teach those traits to our children as well, and as a family, we persevered!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Las Olas Guesthouse @15th Avenue – what should we know?
Las Olas Guesthouse @15th Avenue is an upscale guesthouse located the Victoria Park neighborhood in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. We offer very a clean, comfortable, relaxing tropical oasis in the center of a bustling city. We are only five miles from Fort Lauderdale airport and less than a mile from the beach, amazing shopping like the Galleria Mall and Las Olas Blvd, as well as fine dining and museums.
What makes us special is our personal touch. Aside from the typical amenities you would find at an upscale hotel, such as free breakfast, free WiFi, free parking, and proper hair dryers, refrigerators, microwaves, gourmet coffee, etc. our hotel offers a soft elegance with Egyptian cotton towels, bathrobes, and sheets as well as high-end bath products, all included in our daily rate.
Additionally, my wife and I are available 24 hours a day to answer any and all questions our guests may have and we are always researching entertaining things for our guests to do. I truly enjoy speaking with our guests about life in South Florida, and hearing about their travels, as many of our guests come from overseas.
Whether from South America, all over Europe, or the Far East, we get people of all flavors at Las Olas Guesthouse!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Without the support of my mother, we could not have been as successful as we are. She lives in the Keys and is always ready and willing to drop what she is doing and help us out. Whether it is for help getting the kids to school on time every day, or cleaning up after a hurricane, she is always there for us. Love you mom!

Wow. This looks beautiful. I would love to make a trip. I always said I wasn’t interested in Florida until we moved to Baltimore. Did you redecorate? It looks comfortable and charming.
