Rising Stars: Meet Danae Nunez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danae Nunez.

Hi Danae, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I studied fine arts and psychology, and I fell into advertising by mistake. I started as a designer doing banners and resizes and got promoted to Art Director soon after. Since then, I’ve worked with clients big and small and do a lot of personal projects on the side, many of which have social causes. “Hecho En” is one of those projects. It started as an advertising brief to celebrate Latinos, but when I discovered that there wasn’t a platform to showcase and empower Latino artists and creators, I decided to make one myself. It started as a website and online store and turned into a print magazine full of different Latino creators. The community has been incredibly supportive, confirming the fact that a platform like this needed to exist.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Finding the time to do the “Hecho En” magazines has definitely been the biggest challenge. With a full-time, job and several other creative projects in the works, it’s hard to find the time sometimes to sit down and work. But it’s always super rewarding to do it, so even if I don’t want to work on weekends or at nights, I’ll find the time to keep working on the magazine.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
By trade, I’m an Art Director in Advertising. I work for Grey NY (remotely) under the brand Modelo, but do a lot of personal work on the side. I’ve done a few voting campaigns with some really talented friends and that’s the work I’m most proud of. It’s nice to work for a cause that matters to you with no client feedback, so your vision ends up being the finished product. I love any type of design, illustration, and art and I try to infuse that into all my projects. So, I would say that’s what sets me apart in what I do.
