Hi Erin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got into holistic health as I was tackling some of my own health issues. It started, though, when I realized I couldn’t read any of the words on the back of my shampoo bottle. I started researching those ingredients, learning that many are known endocrine disrupters and carcinogens. I started making my own soap which lead to lotions and then other body care products. This lead me to essential oils and herbs, intermittent fasting, and other holistic protocols. I experienced the therapeutic and mood-boosting benefits of essential oils for myself, and I ended up getting certified as a Level 2 Certified Holistic Aromatherapist. Concurrently with this, I also got a doctorate in music. Now I combine sound with essential oils and herbs in my practice. I want to help others in the same situation I was in by empowering them with information and saving them all of the time it took me to learn everything I know use in my work. I offer online courses on aromatherapy and holistic lifestyle, I offer a monthly soundbath and holistic hacks subscription (which offers sound baths on demand), and I do consulting and coaching with folks who want to work with me 1:1.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been incredibly rough. The last 3 years alone, not only did I take my business completely online during covid, but I was also going through a massive and very life-altering mold illness and mold remediation while I did this. One thing I have learned, though, and is that persistence almost always pays off. On the other side of this, everything in my life is so much more fulfilling and meaningful because of what I learned going through the struggles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is 90% online in order to make services available to as many people as possible. Arcadia Holistic School is an online school that offers courses in aromatherapy, holistic lifestyle, including Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as a 12-week Complete Holistic Lifestyle Makeover. I also do consulting with folks for supporting individual health challenges. VIP coaching is offered just a few times a year for folks looking to touch base with me weekly as they work on a 12-week Complete Holistic Lifestyle Makeover. Combining holistic lifestyle and sound work, I offer a monthly subscription of online sound baths and holistic hacks (which includes sound baths on demand) called The Arcadia Empowerment Collective.
Prairie Soap House & Apothecary is the original root of my business that still exists. This is an online apothecary offering soaps, lotions, serum, skincare, smudge sticks, herbs, and hydrosols, and many of these products are made with ingredients sourced on my permaculture farm, Arcadia. I distill the hydrosols right here, and herbs I grow are in many of the products offered.
We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking.
I think I am a default risk taker simply because I seem to not see the world the same way as many people do. If we are talking about the old analogy of living inside or outside the box, I can never recall being aware that there was a box in the first place. I believe that when we are connected truly to the core of who we are and our intuition (something I work a lot on with my clients), that we will know which paths are right for us. Very often this involves taking risks as it appears to those around us. But for us, it will feel like the safest and best place because it is where our energy is flowing, and we can trust ourselves to go there fully because we are fully invested in our soul.
