Conversations with Linda Heithaus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Heithaus.

Hi Linda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Although I’ve had the gift of mediumship my entire life, my path was anything but linear. I graduated university with a bachelor of science degree in biology and had my first job in fisheries environmental toxicology. Shortly after I was married, my husband and I moved from Vancouver, BC to Florida, and I worked as a research scientist on large sharks. Spending time in Australia and the Keys catching and tagging big sharks is something I will always treasure. We spent 2 years working for National Geographic traveling the world filming a television series. I loved my work as an associate producer but stopped when I had our 3rd child.

When I was 25, my father passed away from cancer. The grief and trauma from his illness swallowed me, magnified by the question no one could answer – where had he gone? Was he gone forever? I kept looking for signs. Looking back there were many, but my logically trained mind dismissed them. I didn’t know I was seeing and hearing spirits until I had a pivotal experience. Because my gift is innate, it’s as natural as breathing. I decided to share what I was experiencing with a small group of trusted girlfriends. One of them had recently lost a close friend to cancer. The next morning, as I was lying in bed, I saw a young woman in spirit and wrote everything down she showed me. Turns out, everything was spot on. My girlfriend told me how much the messages helped her, and encouraged me to pursue mediumship. I was equally ecstatic and fearful about my discovery. I was scared of the unknown, of being labelled crazy, yet there was no option to turn back from this point. I knew I needed to better understand what I was experiencing.

I was fortunate to find my incredible mentor, Dr. Shirley Ryan. Her spiritual development course was life-changing, and working with her was crucial for uncovering and organizing my gift. Shirley also personally supported me during my early days of conducting readings and taught me to think about my gift as limitless, and the world in a different, more beautiful, and enlightening way. I am forever grateful for all that she has given me, which I now pass on to all those I am blessed to work with.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Mediumship is living with tremendous love and inspiring moments. Helping those who’ve experienced a loss is rewarding and deeply fulfilling, but it does not come without its challenges. Due to its intrinsic nature, I can’t turn it off. Perpetual spirit visits interrupt me daily. Imagine laying down to sleep, getting a massage, doing pilates, or standing in line at a grocery store, only to have someone’s loved one burst into talk? It may seem intrusive, but I’ve come to embrace it.

I was a new student when I started volunteering in the Parkland community right after the 2018 MSD high school shooting. At the time, my readings were not at the level they are today. I continued to push through my fears despite my nerves. Spirits move very fast and many times I got things wrong. It’s akin to learning a new language and I worked to develop my own symbols for metaphors. Connecting with spirit for hours requires incredible focus and suspension of ego and judgement. It’s dissociating from oneself to ensure precise communication.

Being comfortable working with various levels of grief is essential. Strong grief from a recent passing can make a reading more challenging. Skeptics were another hurdle I encountered. Personally, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer during my training and felt knocked down physically and mentally. After healing, I jumped right back into work. The pandemic required rethinking my business platform, switching from in-person readings to Zoom.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a certified empathic medium, specializing in connecting with loved ones who have passed (in spirit). I use many channels to see in 3D and color, hear their voice, feel emotions, smell, taste, and use literal and figurative symbols and metaphors. I also receive messages in movie form for greater depth. I repeat things I hear, even speaking short phrases in other languages.

I am truly grateful for this work and the positive effects bestowed on those I meet. Readings are a profound and powerful experience. They uplift and help alleviate grief. The strong connections I make result in incredible personal details and personalities coming through. I always set an intention to receive messages a client needs to hear to help them heal. It is deeply fulfilling helping in this unique way. I love being the space between, and feeling the strong emotion of love that ties us together. One of the most extraordinary experiences I have is when a spirit comes days before their loved one ever makes an appointment. They are excited to connect. I’m proud to say I can work with anyone on the planet, from any location. Sessions are equally beautiful, validating, and healing in person or over Zoom.

What matters most to you? Why?
My family and friends are the most precious things in this world to me. Their love and support lift me up daily. Kindness and empathy and modeling these for our children is also paramount in challenging times like these. I am extremely dedicated to my work and helping those who need it. Practicing daily gratitude and meditating makes my life rich and beautiful. I have always loved being in nature, whether on a beach, skiing, or a walk. It keeps me in the present moment. Lastly, self-love is something I am new to practicing but extremely important. Looking within for love means love is returned and reflected back in life experiences.
