Rising Stars: Meet Deon Jefferson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deon Jefferson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Creative artist, journalist, singer, and designer Deon has worked in the bridal industry for over eight years. He began working as a bridal stylist for Alfred Angelo Bridal. His efforts granted him the opportunity to be a featured employee on the Emmy award-winning reality tv show “Undercover Boss” and a job in the design department under the stewardship of chief creative officer, Michele Piccione. While at Alfred Angelo, Deon designed several best-selling bridesmaids’ dresses in addition to styling photo shoots for the Alfred Angelo bridal and Disney Fairytale Wedding collections. in 2020, Deon designed the entire bridesmaid collection for gather and gowns, his efforts also allowed him to creatively direct the brands spring photoshoot, not once, but twice.

His work has been seen at New York bridal fashion week, in Trends wedding magazine, “Out and About” Southwest Florida, Upscale Magazine, and VEU Magazine. Deon worked as a contributing creative director for the 2019 Randy Fenoli’s Silver Springs collection and styled 90’s dance icon, Cece Peniston. He enjoys collaborating with photographers for styled shoots, engagement shoots, and lifestyle photoshoots.

In addition to being a designer, Deon has also been a contributing writer for a number of publications in South Florida and Ohio. Deon holds a degree in Mass Communications/Broadcast Media from Central State University.

Deon has written for South Florida Gays News, South Florida Music Magazine, The Westside Gazette, Art and Culture Magazine just to name a few.

Deon is also active in the mental/behavioral health field. He serves as the Grants Navigator for BeWell PBC. Deon also enjoys being an abstract painter. His work has been displayed all throughout South Florida.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve done too much. It sounds dumb to say, but its honest. I have been blessed to get my feet wet in a lot of different areas. The sad part is that I’ve had a hard time locking down which area is important to me. I struggle with proving myself as an artist in South Florida. I’ve always had a dream of being an EGOT

The biggest challenge that I faced was getting laid off from Alfred Angelo. They moved me to South Florida, then a few years later they went bankrupt. So, it took a few years to find a good job and find another opportunity to design.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
-I am a huge fan of documentaries.

-I love learning about someone’s life.

-I love the beach and parks.

-I love listening to audiobooks

-I love playing and searching for vinyl records.

-I dislike lazy people

-I dislike bar-b-que

-I dislike to be away from my home when it’s raining.

-I dislike anything that takes my attention away from Beyonce.
