Hi Darren, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi, my name is Darren Cunningham, I am the founder and CEO of Direct Position Inc. We’ve been in business since March 1st, 2017. Since I was a child, my goal has been to become a businessman like many other successful men in my family heritage. Four years after graduating from Asbury Park High School, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Education at Montclair State University, Montclair, New Jersey. After teaching for two years, I wanted more of a challenge for myself and decided to take on a new career path in the Merchant Services banking industry, due to the location I had to move to Fort Lauderdale, Fl to accept the position. After three years of banking and financial services experience, I felt like I had the mental capacity to start and run my own company successfully.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When you first start out, it requires your undivided attention to learn the “know-how”, and “Tricks to the trade.” The road to being an independent business owner has many twists and turns. That more often, you cannot anticipate with a lack of knowledge. For me to get through this phase I used self-confidence to overcome the pressure of potential failures and having to find a job instead of being an entrepreneur while continuing to grow. This was the fuel to my motivation. In my life, one of my strongest beliefs is that “Anything worth having, is worth fighting for.” Challenges that are intangibles eventually become obvious. The secret to success is learning your weaknesses and making them a strength.
