Meet Bridget Trainer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Trainer.

Hi Bridget, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Following an internship in Physical Therapy my final year of college, I found myself discouraged with my chosen career path. The ideal image of my life included helping people feel good both mentally and physically, but the internship showed me that a career in Physical Therapy would mostly consist of juggling of patients and jumping through hoops with insurance than helping people.

Since I was already loving working as a Personal Trainer in a chain gym in Chicago, I decided to give my all into enjoying being in the moment and see where life would take me. It was then that a licensed Massage Therapist approached me and asked if I’d be interested in working with his very elite and celebrity clientele in-home. He had been watching my interaction and approach with my clients at the gym for quite some time and knew I had what it took to work with his clients who needed help beyond weekly massages. I jumped at the opportunity to basically be handed a clientele that most people only dream about working with.

For the last 25 years, I have been in my dream career working with my dream clientele helping them feel the best they can both physically and mentally. I offer a high level of service and flexibility as well as

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest challenge is listening to my own advice and knowledge. I don’t always want to exercise and frequently think I don’t have time (lies to myself. We all know 90 seconds of exercise is 90 times better than nothing!) I sometimes really have to force myself to just get started or commit to doing just 90 seconds of jumping rope, burpees, or compound resistance exercises using my whole body. But I also feel that is what makes me empathetic and understanding when trying to motivate and teach my clients. I totally understand “hating” push-ups or “not feeling like working out” and know how to approach and overcome that resistance because of my own experiences with “hating exercise”.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is finding a plan that fits with my client’s lifestyle. Most of my clients have active social lives filled with travel, dinners, and cocktails. It’s important to help them with a program (and reminders) that they can do anywhere at any time. Most of my clients need a fitness program that is less than 30min. We can do that! Some of my clients want exercises they can do outside or on the road with minimal equipment and we can make that happen as well! It’s okay to have that glass of wine, it’s okay to eat dessert…just do it mindfully; enjoy every sip and bite and appreciate the pleasure.

My clients spend 2-3 hours per week with me, so it’s important that they are remembering to take care of their health the other 165+ hours of the week. I help remind and push them along with text reminders, emails, or phone calls throughout the day, especially on the days we don’t meet so they form a habit of good posture, drinking water, eating properly, or anything they need to be reminded of to have a healthier lifestyle.
