Hi Waveney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur but did not know how I would do it or even what business idea I would focus on. However, in 2017, I was the HR Manager for an international company on the island and was heavily involved in recruiting for the company. It was then I realized an area of opportunity as some persons were coming to the interview unprepared.
So in 2018, The People’s brand was birthed, and our Jump Start Your Career Interview Prep program was launched. It was a seven-week program that covered a wide range of topics from discovering your ideal profession, communication, resume writing, and interview role plays. Since then, the company has grown and evolved, offering coaching programs focusing on new and emerging managers: speaking engagements and Business support services.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think if the road were smooth, I would be worried. Some of the challenges faced were learning how to market well to reach a wider audience. Keeping updated on social media trends, for example, my strategy for Instagram had to change to incorporate more reels. But the most significant challenges were overcoming my introverted tendencies, my fear of the camera, and having the spotlight on me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The People’s Brand is a leadership coaching company based on the island of St. Kitts, which is part of the federation of St. Christopher & Nevis. We help new, and emerging managers develop leadership influence by mastering their relationships at work and leveraging their communication skills. We do this by Connecting, Inspiring, and Influencing through our coaching services.
I think what sets us apart from others is that we focus on a holistic approach to leadership coaching, focusing on mindset as a foundation but also considering the other critical pillars that make up a person’s well-being, such as their emotional and spiritual aspects.
I am most proud that we are the very first coaching company within my tiny island that focuses on leadership development in such a unique and inspiring way. And I am also proud of how the brand has evolved from its inception to where it is currently.
I would like our readers to know that if they are either thinking about or are currently on that management career path, then the only way to be successful for a very long time is to focus on their personal development. The three things that matter most to me are Integrity, Continuous Growth, and Spirituality. Integrity means staying true to myself, always being authentic, and keeping my commitments to myself and others. Also, being in complete alignment with who I am, and what I coach/teach.
And Continuous Growth, life is about growing and developing into the best version of yourself. I love learning, and I love to share my learnings which is why coaching was the right fit for me. And lastly, my Spiritual life is the glue that holds all the other pillars of my life together. It is a huge part of who I am and has helped expand who I am as a person.
