Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Berti.
Hi Jill, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started Workery Consulting, a boutique HR consulting agency for small businesses, after almost 10 years in corporate HR and management. I started my career managing a Target store and found my way into HR when one of my peers was out for an extended time and I covered her position.
Fast forward to 2020 and I found myself navigating COVID for a nationwide company with approximately 150 locations, with most employees being considered essential workers. It was a truly challenging time for all businesses, but especially small businesses. I’d always toyed with the idea of being an entrepreneur but it was during COVID that I saw my opportunity to have a large impact on many organizations and teams, and then Workery was born.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall it’s been a relatively smooth road, but of course, there have been bumps along the way. Going into business means that you’re an expert in that service or product you offer, but not necessarily all of the other things that come along with growing a company – like the accounting, marketing, social media, or strategy pieces. While I’m set on the HR and team front, it’s been a challenge at times to admit when I need help in the other areas.
The other struggle that I know most business owners have at some point or another is the self-doubt that comes with this journey – am I doing enough/should I be doing more? The to-do list is always growing and it can be easy to beat yourself up over things you think you could be doing better at.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is making the work experience better for employees and making the management experience better for our clients. It’s changing the perception of what HR is and how it operates with an organization – it’s not just an admin role, but a strategic role and one that can set the tone of an organization’s culture.
Success is also being able to have a work-life balance in my personal life and to have a fulfilling career but also be able to spend time with my family and friends.
