Today we’d like to introduce you to Memphis Garrett.
Hi Memphis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started when I sat at the end of a bar at 6 years old while my mother finished her shift. Ever since then I was hooked. I started working in hospitality venues when I was 21. I have done it all from the dishwasher, Busser, server, etc. I knew I always wanted to open my own venues and I also knew I had a lot to learn.
I started with a young company at the time SBE. It is now a very large company. I took every position I could and went for every promotion to sharpen my skills. 12 years later I went out on my own with enough knowledge and confidence or at least that’s what I thought. lol
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? no way. I take the Ls as lessons and keep pushing forward. Here are a few struggles, lack of workforce, partners, covid, and the list goes on, but this is what we do. We find solutions and put out fires. Welcome to hospitality.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Garrett Hospitality Group is a boutique lifestyle company. We own and operate restaurants and bars. We focus on what I call fun dining, We have elevated service with a more energy-driven experience. I am most proud of the team we have built. The executive team at GHG are disruptors and natural leaders.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I had a nice balance of playing sports and throwing parties. I was constantly trying to make money. I started a private social club in high school called CBA where people paid dues and received swag and cups for keg parties so they didn’t have to pay at the party. I don’t think I knew what I had created but in hindsight, it’s pretty funny to think about.
