Check Out Melissa Joseph’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Joseph.

Hi Melissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I graduated this school year from Boyd H Anderson high school. I will be enlisted within the U.S army soon, and I will be majoring in nursing. I’m a young compassionate woman and I love to take risks in my life especially because I’m 19 years old – I also love work with children, they make me smile as I love to make them smile as well; “Ann Travay Pou Timoun Yo” was founded on June of 2020, since the age of 12 years old, i have been blessed to be able to already start helping orphanages every December with my aunt. I actually visited my first orphanage in august of 2020, specifically helping the children! That’s where I truly found my passion. Every time I visited an orphanage, I learned something new about myself, as well as from the children.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Creating a nonprofit organization at the age of 16 years old was far from easy, but I can truly say that It was completely worth it. The tasks have never been easy, but I always try to do my best to guide and supervise the children educational, social and cultural needs. Due to my age, a lot of individuals perceived this not be something that was to be taken serious, and they even doubted about me and my capabilities. One thing I always did, was believe in my self, and I always had the support from my dear family and my friends. Especially from the co-founder, Samuel Coq, he was always by my side, cheering me up, and most importantly, he helped assist me with every details pertaining to the organization. I promised myself to never stop fighting for these children no matter of the obstacles that I may be faced with.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I grew up in Haiti, I’m a woman of God, which I dedicated my life to God at my youngest age. I will be majoring in nursing while being enlisted within the army. Other individuals who truly know, would describe me as a very courageous and kind young woman. I have always wanted to learn new things and become a better person and version of myself each and everyday, my confidence has led me to start my nonprofit “ANN TRAVAY POU TIMOUN YO” I have been blessed to support so many orphanages in Haiti, it makes me so proud to see how my work as a woman of God can create and make a smile on all of the children faces, and most importantly to see how it’s bring joy to their hearts. Since August of 2020, I have worked on several donations, since the very beginning. This specifically consisting of back-to-school supplies for the kids. I was able to help 100 kids and each and very one of them had school supplies that included the following: sharpeners, pens, pencils, erasers, glue, rulers, folders, markers, notebooks, etc.

In December of 2021, I was also able to organize a buffet for Christmas within an orphanage in Haiti. Every child was able to receive a gift and generously enjoy quality time with all of our beautiful staff. Everyone truly enjoyed themselves and the day was just filled with smiles and pure happiness. I’m really blessed and grateful and I want to always help these angels. A very special thanks to God and to all the donors as well, my family, and all of the staff members. it would have never been possible without the help of my village and most importantly, God.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Support and Help of any kind is very much welcomed, I’m currently looking for volunteers, help, opportunities, sponsors, etc. Any individual can work with us, as long as they are able to make sacrifices and give their best foot forward to their work ethic, collaboration, and assistance. Without their valuable help, nothing would be possible. Moreover, our motto is to work together for a better tomorrow!
