Meet Carolyn Marrero of Algum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Marrero.

Hi Carolyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Carolyn Nahielys, I was born in a small town called Mayagüez, on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I spent eight years there before moving to Miami, Florida.

My relationship with Branding & Social Media began in my second year of college. I was working as a social media manager for a non-profit organization until I landed a job as a Marketing Coordinator at a Dental practice. During that time, I was exposed to many business owners/entrepreneurs who ignited my passion for starting my own agency. After months of experience, I decided to quit my job at 20 to start my own branding / consulting agency. I barely had any experience working with 1-to-1 clients but I knew I had a vision for helping people achieve their dreams and taking the leap toward their passions. I did not have a lot of experience but I knew I had a vision and passion for more. I launched Algum and learned as I went. From hours watching many Youtube videos to reading articles on google on how to design logos, websites, and products.

From the beginning, I knew it was going to be a challenge, but I found myself spending my time doing something that grew me. I had no idea how I was going to be an entrepreneur and make a living out of these skills, but I was up for the challenge.

It has been almost three years since starting and ever since I have gotten the opportunity of working with many founders, big and small. From brands like Veiled Collection New York, Silvercut Jewelry, and so many others. Right now I run a small but powerful team remotely. Our main focus is to help ambitious founders and visionaries find a unique space and voice in their industry. We do this by focusing on their unique selling points and by creating an aesthetic and appealing brand identity. People come to us for our unique eye for visuals!

I love what I do, and I can’t wait to continue helping others bring their visions to life. Life is too short to sit back and let your dreams stay in the back of your mind.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. From learning how to deliver to clients to staying consistent during the months that I wasn’t producing as much. A lot of people have skills but learning how to build a business out of it with no mentorship can be really difficult. I was also working on finishing my bachelor’s at FIU in the meantime, so having to balance my work, school, and personal life was challenging. I think my biggest struggle was being disciplined. When you don’t have a boss telling you what to do, that can cause slack and lack of discipline at times.

We’ve been impressed with Algum, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Guided by human desire, we help passionate business owners establish a distinct brand presence. We work alongside passionate entrepreneurs bridging the gap between their brand and their client’s needs. We specialize in social media branding, visual identities, packaging, and art direction.

What sets us apart is our process and eye for visuals. People come to us for our minimalistic, prestige, and modern style of design. We partner with talented designers/strategists to provide our clients with a unique experience.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as a feeling of fulfillment. If you can wake up every day and feel fulfilled with your life, you are considered successful in my eyes. It’s not about achievements or career status but fulfillment in the little things. Building a lifestyle that feels whole.
