Meet Carlos Elias Carlos Elias as KBMP

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Elias better known as KBMP.

Hi Carlos, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in 2003 playing percussion in churches but discovered in 2006 that my passion was music production. In 2006 I started to write poetry and rap on instrumentals that we could download on programs like ”Napster”, ”Kazaa” and ”Limewire”. But everything changed when I realized that other artists were using the same instrumentals as me. It was there that I decided to learn how to make my own instrumentals with the ”Fruity Loops 4” program.

For many years I was recording many artists from the neighborhood to learn and be a good music producer. In 2011 I officially opened my first recording studio. I started to get my first contracts but, nevertheless, I wanted to specialize in my work so I enrolled in a private school (Musitechnic) and graduated in 2014 as a sound engineer.

And in 2015, we won as the best tropical group of the year at the Latin awards Canada (”Combo Tropical” in the music group that I am part of). And in 2016, 2017, 2018 I was nominated for best urban producer of the year and in 2019 I won best urban producer of the year at the Latin Awards Canada.

In 2020 I worked with ”Dixzon” a Chilean artist who was signed by the label ”Nabru Records” which is a sub-label of ”Rimas Records” (The label that has Bad Bunny signed).

After 11 years in my first recording studio, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and opened my second studio in August 2022.

Currently, I have projects to travel to work with artists from other countries, I am working on the sales of instrumentals on platforms such as ”Beatstars”, ”YouTube” And I am working on the launch of my second studio ”Connexion Studios”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would tell you that it is learning about the music business, you know, when you start as an artist, you focus on the art and not on the business. And it is something very important.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a composer, author, performer, arranger, musician, vocal producer and sound engineer.

And I’ve done all kinds of music like: rock, bachata, cumbia, electronic merengue, zouk/kompa fusions like kizomba but I mostly do urban music (Reggaeton, trap, rnb, etc).

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
That sooner or later, discipline surpasses intelligence! Discipline is the key to success, you can lose motivation but if you stay disciplined in what you do you will be successful.
