Today we’d like to introduce you to Javel Perriel.
Javel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am an Educator located in Jacksonville, FL. I have serviced the Miami and Broward area and have lived in Jacksonville for a year.
I have been a percussionist for most of my life, and I fell in love with the power of teaching during my senior year in high school.
After graduating high school (Lake Worth High School), I volunteered at local music programs.
I then completed my A.A. Degree at Palm Beach State College and my bachelor’s Degree at Florida International University.
I have been teaching for over 5+ years as a Music Educator.
I am excited about what is to come, and part of that is being an author. Publishing my first book this year titled “Music is Bananas.’
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been an easy road. In 2017, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a chronic, inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation in the digestive tract. That was a hard battle for me. I had to take more time for my health and change my diet. I came to the point of giving up teaching because of the stress it put on my body.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Music Educator, Presenter, and Author
I take the time to bring different cultures to the classroom so that my students are culturally aware of those who are and have brought change to music.
Another area for me is connecting S.T.E.M (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) in the music classroom, which I also highlighted in my book ‘Music is Bananas.’
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Being patient and finding joy in the small moments.
