Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Lopez.
Hi Krystal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Krystal Lopez and I am a vegan candle maker. I am in love with the science and peace candle-making brings to our community. After going through tough times in my life with multiple heart surgeries, I’ve experienced constant loneliness and fear. I wanted to find a way to help our culture find ways to connect with themselves at a deeper level.
I started candle-making five years ago as a hobby. The process brought me ease and helped me block off my daily anxiety. I believe that we grew up believing it is the norm to seek perfection every day and success is always viewed as a one-way street. I wanted to bring the community an experience to come as they are and honor every moment in their life; the good and the bad. That’s how I started turning my passion into a business.
My hope is when a person lights up one of my candles, they hit the pause button and appreciate the moment that they are in. Life is a constant yin-yang rotation, we need both in to truly live.
If it wasn’t for me understanding my fears and turning them into life lessons, I would not be here today.
If I can leave you with a mantra to help you get through the day, it would be this:
“You matter,
you always have,
you always will.
Your journey is not over yet.”

Your Local Candle Dealer
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been an easy road. It took a lot of tears, laughter, and inner work to be where I am today. After having my heart surgeries, the healing process was rough to understand. I couldn’t go back to doing my normal day-to-day activities like I used to. Somehow writing, reconnecting with my loved ones, and meditation helped me understand life in a different way. When I decided to finally turn my candles into a business, I honestly laughed at myself and kept on repeating, “the world has enough damn candles, why waste my time?”. But support from different co-working groups and the Creative Mornings community that helped me realize that the time is now. If you are already struggling with committing to an idea that means, it’s time to make moves. How can we grow as humans without even trying?
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a candle maker or as others like to say, ” your local candle dealer”. I make vegan soy wax candles for the community. Every candle comes with its own playlist according to its mood. I am also I am a writer; I have been blogging for six years. Writing is a form of expression I’ve always had a strong connection to. I wanted to find a way to make my candles into a collective experience, so I decided to connect my poetry, meditations, and favorite scents to my candles.
I am most proud of myself for taking the jump. I would have never thought that I, an Educator can make it out in this world as a candle maker! I remember crying to a friend about it and he told me, ” Just do it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain”. Those words did create a spark and helped me go full speed. I am proud of getting out of my comfort zone. This part of my life has made me the most fearless woman I’ve ever imagined I could be. All of us are really limitless and we can break the barriers. The only one that was stopping me was myself. Now that I decided to make a shift in my life, hold hands with fear, and live within vulnerability, I am ready for it all!
What sets me apart from others is that I believe that candles are so much more than just a product. It is a full sensory experience. Having these all interconnected has helped me connect with our culture in a vulnerable way. When I hear people’s stories, it truly brings me abundance. We all have lives that are hard to live and sometimes we just need someone or something to help us just show up as ourselves.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
It is okay not to be prepared. It is normal to be scared and feel hopeless. This is how you know the time is now. Success is not supposed to be linear. You need to invest in yourself in order to seek the change you desire. To be honest, there is no right way to go or GPS to follow. The more you wait, the longer you let your potential stay stagnant.
One thing I wish I knew when I started is that the generation we live in now is filled with communities to support you in every way. You will not get far in your business by doing it all alone. Groups like Creative Mornings and local socials are free events that will help you with your creative spark! Find your team, join community talks, and show up for yourself. Connecting is the way to thrive.
