Conversations with Morgana Gmach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgana Gmach.

Morgana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started rhythmic gymnastics very young (I was 3yo). I was a very active kid so my parents decided to make me use all my energy on the sport!

My results started to show up very quickly, I was an ambitious gymnast and always loved new challenges. I have two sisters that also were gymnasts, one older than me and one younger.

My dream was to go to the NATIONAL TEAM, but that wasn’t an easy thing, I did several selective and after five years I got the opportunity to represent my country (Brazil). My sisters were great gymnasts too, my younger sister went to the NATIONAL TEAM before than me, and my older sister had other plans for her life.

After two years away from my younger sister, I had the chance to represent Brazil together with her. It was amazing, so many challenges, including living miles away from my family.

I stayed on the reserve team for a while, but when I had the chance to make the first team, I didn’t spare any effort to show that I was capable.

So that was when new challenges, new competitions began to arise, my sister got hurt and had to leave the national team and I was left alone, but always with the aim of overcoming myself…

Opportunities came and I had the chance to participate in the Pan American Games where we were champions, and the chance to represent my country in the Olympics, this was the best years of my life.

Today I am so grateful to all these experiences, I have the opportunity to teach everything I learned in 22 years of gymnastics, my younger sister also lives in the United States working with gymnastics and my older sister works at Cirque du Soleil.

All the challenges were necessary to transform me into the woman I am today, I am very grateful to God and my parents who have always been with me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It was so hard to get into the national team, I tried for five years, for four years, I had heard NO, and on the fifth, I got there in 2015. I did surgery in 2010 on my right foot and that almost made me give up on my dream.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work with gymnastics, I love to have the opportunity to teach what I know, to see little kids doing new movements, to see them overcoming new challenges, that makes me happy.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I would love to have my own gym.
