Inspiring Conversations with Danny Hidalgo of Sole Fly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Hidalgo.

Hi Danny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in Miami, FL as a child I spent a lot of time in my father’s sporting goods store (Sports World of Kendall). The store closed in the early 90s, but the passion for sneakers and sportswear never left my soul. Since I was just a small child, I’ve always been obsessed with sneakers. Most kids growing up in the 80s and 90’s only owned a pair or two of sneakers. I on the other hand always had a rotation of sneakers I would alternate. Since sneakers weren’t a big part of the culture at the time, everyone just thought I was crazy. It didn’t take long after I finished college that I decided to make a living off my passion for sneakers. In the beginning I would rent moving trucks and drive up the state of Florida starting from Florida City and ending up in Jacksonville looking for inventory during the outlets quarterly Friends and Family sales. I turned my garage into my own sneaker store and would make stops to local gyms selling sneakers out of my trunk. But eventually, I wanted to walk in my father’s footsteps and open up a storefront of my own. To make a long story short, my cousin Anthony Garcia and I teamed up with Carlos Prieto to create the concept of “Sole Fly”. We opened our doors to the public in 2010 and the rest is history.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the struggles I experienced on this journey include initial funding, finding reliable staff, following budgets, long work hours and learning how to work with major corporate companies.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sole Fly?
What sets Sole Fly apart from other stores is the amount of exclusive brands and products we carry. I’m so proud that two locals born and raised in Miami kids turned our dreams into reality in our hometown. We are so excited for our future collaborations with the top worldwide known brands we have coming up in the future.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Being consistent and patient. Nothing happens overnight.
