Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Medina.
Hi Alejandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It is 2015, and my husband Pedro and I arrived in Miami with a single suitcase from Venezuela with many fears and leaving aside our profession as physical therapists and the achievements in our country. We did not know how to restart our lives in a new country, with another language and many challenges. So, we hanged the uniforms of physiotherapists, and we became all the trades that were necessary to achieve our goals. One thing was always clear to us “hard work will pay rewards”. After many jobs as a housekeeper, construction, waiter, bartender, cigar vendor, valet parking and many more, we learned through those jobs many values that made us better people.
In the middle, we learned English, and I decide to challenge myself in a job where I must speak only English, so Maite and Fernando hired me at their spa as a receptionist, they were very kind and patient, they taught me with a lot of dedication.
Later working as a valet parking my husband Pedro Sanchez meet Luis Vivas he gave us the opportunity to work with him in a space that he did not use, right next to his hairdressing studio, he believed in us and in a magical way gave us the opportunity to take our first steps. Our parents always support us in many ways all the time, that’s also one of the reasons that we can take the challenge to open a business because our parents are always there with wise words, helping to remodel the space to save money and now my mom who is always our right hand to take care of our baby and much more.
Also, for us, it is extremely important that our work team feels at ease and as a family. Through our company, we have helped many and it is our greatest wish to continue growing to help many more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
At first, the language was the biggest challenge, also we did not know that shaping a company goes far beyond knowing the trade. In the beginning many days passed and we did not have a single client, but our faith remained firm, we knew that if God had allowed us to be there it was because there was a purpose. In addition, starting a business in a foreign country keeps you in daily challenges. We have created the restart structure under the trial-and-error formula. Finally, after three years we already have a structure and we know our vision and mission, we didn’t even know the importance of it. Learning to delegate responsibilities and learn to be a boss, oddly enough, for us it has been quite complicated in addition many people abused our willingness and ignorance and wanted to take advantage. But those who work well always do well and that is what has happened to us. We have always wanted to help others and for the people who work with us to feel like family.
We’ve been impressed with Restart by AP, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Probably the meaning of the letter in our business name the “A” for Alejandra and the “P” for Pedro. And nobody knows but while the clients are receiving the relaxing treatments, sometimes my baby is backstage next to massage room.
