Today we’d like to introduce you to Godei. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Born in Harvey, IL moved around to many places including east Chicago, Chicago heights, and university park.
And around the age of 9 moved to Orlando with a family of 7 (mother, stepfather, and 5 kids). Lived in the suburbs of Windermere/ winter garden Orlando doing all of the middle school and freshman year of high school there, before moving quite sporadically to 5 other schools by the end of the high school journey.
Left for college to study sports/entertainment event management. And dropped out after two years of studying at Johnson & Wales University in North Miami. Dropping out choosing to instead make music and create a business for networking within the music.
Bringing forth the creation of Neon Blk LLC an independent label in collaboration with Johan Chavez at Green top studios in downtown Miami. The artist Godei has an extensive collection of experimental and thoughtful music which has been released and spread throughout 5 mixtapes on all music streaming platforms.
Neon Blk as well as providing production and distribution of music for signed artists, is looking to build an organic event and creative space for connecting and creating for all Miami natives and its visitors alike.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being homeless freshman year of high school around all of the kids you grow up with and no one knowing… also leaving home at 17 to take on the world in Miami will always be difficult.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a versatile singer/songwriter/rapper Who has a diverse pallet of sounds.
growing up and listening to sounds of many different areas and listening to songs that I found any and everywhere throughout my journey I’ve found a way through hard work in 4 going on 5 years of writing music in a platinum recording, Grammy-nominated studio.
The conviction that you hear in the attention-grabbing verses of each song mixed with the sultry singing from a Chicago past. Always makes you want to hear more. Along with the fact that I’ve created a business with my older brother Breon James (founder/ manager), and younger brother Seveyn Emory, Aka (Siete) (producer).
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Flexibility, patience, and personal passion or will.
