Life & Work with Aurora Kelly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aurora Kelly.

Hi Aurora, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started cosplay in 2010 but you could say I’ve been doing it since I was a child. From the age of 6, I’ve been sowing thanks to my grandmother who would hand make all my school uniforms in Venezuela.

At a very young age, those skills intrigued me so I dove in and have been using them since from outfits to cosplays and costumes you name it I can make it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely been hard leaving all my family in Venezuela, I felt extremely lonely as a child.

Going from being in my family the only one of my generation being treated as an adult and allowed to engage in pressing political topics and be part of a movement to moving to the US to be completely alone felt extremely isolating.

I will be forever grateful to my host family of course but the hug and love from a family member are unrivaled. I definitely had to do a ton of growing up very very quickly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in cosplay and content creation I’m also a performer and event producer. I’m most proud of myself every time I wander out of my comfort zone.

Not many people would know but internally I am very nervous and shy but I strive to push against the boundaries every day of my life because I truly believe success lies beyond my comfort zone.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
GET YOURSELF OUT THERE and don’t be afraid to ask.

The worst thing you can possibly get from trying is a lesson. We either succeed or learn there is no such thing as failure as long as we put ourselves out there and use our resources.

Before you reach out to people try to do your own research when searching for mentors always have something to offer be that time, money, or helpful tools to them, and simply be humble and honest. The more honest you are the more you can be helped just don’t be afraid to reach out.
