Today we’d like to introduce you to Pyke Walker.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started out with me drawing at a very young age, around the age of 5 and I’ve always had a love for art and fashion! I’ve always wanted to be an artist and an animator but my flair for fashion would allow me to collide both worlds!
My mom was a designer and I always had to dress up even in school! My love for art was incorporated into my designs! Whereas, I would paint and draw on fabric… creating realistic designs as if the designs were already imprinted into the fabric!
I graduated high school and went to the art institute where I graduated with a degree in fashion design and science also… Getting an additional degree at Kaiser University for Business Management. I’ve been making custom designs for over 20 years! In high school started drawing cartoon characters on denim by hand, hand painted them, and also embellished for a finished look and sold them to all my friends!
Now I’m the designer I’ve always wanted to be! I now make everything! And, just like my motto says “anything from a G-string to a wedding”! I think that covers anything you can imagine to everything you can’t! I pride myself on creativity and not making my designs look the same as one another! That’s what sets me apart from others!
I often ask my clients what made them choose me over the others and they would often reply “because none of your dresses looked the same as others!” Although some designs would be inspirations others that would want my flow in my creative juices would see their vision come to life and it would over exceed their dreams!
I’ve done things that have been surprising to me like creating, designing, and sewing whole dresses in under an hour! I’ve put together a whole fashion show within a month and a half! While sewing over 100 haute couture pieces in a month!
Getting recognition for my work has allowed me to work with record labels and artists! I started out by naming my business pish posh pioneers which meant innovating whatever in fashion! Too rebranding myself and changing it to it’s just Pyke!
It’s simply me! Just me! Everything me!
It’s just Pyke!
It can’t get any more stylish, fun, chic, and funkier than that!
I really am just a designer/seamstress that wants to remain true to myself and humble! I thank god for where I’ve been and where I’m about to go! God has been the engine driving me through this journey!
He has blessed me with this ability to use my hands to create all kinds of garments from different eras in fashion and has given me an even bigger ability to bless those that I come across! All I can say is come along for the ride because we’re going places!
It’s just Pyke!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
An entrepreneur’s self-starting business would never be a smooth ride! My struggles would have to have been having three kids and trying to juggle a business while trying to be a wife and a mom.
Trying to get a hold of social media and the how-to toss of growing your business! But after my divorce, I had to buckle down and figure everything out!
Sometimes losing will help to push you into winning for you and your family!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a fashion designer seamstress that specializes in custom design! I’m known for gowns, bridal wear, party dresses, and embellishing any and everything!
I’m most proud of myself for not giving up when things weren’t looking bright in other areas of my life… but through prayer, I’ve been sustained!
I’ve been able to have one of my best seasons yet by creating over 50 dresses this prom season while making party and bridal dresses at the same time!
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to get into more mass production and mainly just focus on gowns! I’m planning a fashion show by the end of this year… and moving on to whatever God has for me!
