Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Mullings.
Hi Emma, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In Australia, I worked in media and music and was also very involved in my local church.
In addition to studying journalism, I’d also gone to bible college but I felt it was more for my own personal growth and healing at the time, I never saw myself starting a church!
I also was though very involved in my church – after walking in at 22 years old, broken, depressed, highly dis-functional, but highly functioning, I went on a journey of healing and saw my life completely transformed.
Fast forward, to 2019, my husband and our four kids (the youngest being 7 months at the time) landed on the shores of Miami with a dream in our hearts to start and build a church that would be a place of hope and healing for so many.
We wanted to speak to the greatest needs in the community and started by putting on a marriage course which was a free 9-week course for people from the community who wanted help with the hot topics in marriage, money, sex, kids, anger, forgiveness – all the things people find are the most challenging to navigate in marriage.
We also started opening our home every Sunday to whoever wanted to come for dinner – we called them “family dinners”, and we started regular outreach into the community.
We then also started running Financial Peace University – a course to help people get out of debt and budget and a third course called FREEDOM – which speaks to the different areas of our life that keep us from being at peace and free.
This video tells our story.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NO!!!! it has not been, when we said we were leaving Australia to start a church in America, everyone thought we were crazy! we’d just had another baby, and we’re having a great impact in both church (Terrence worked for our local church) and in media (he also did media work with me and we had our own tv show also).
Six weeks after we landed, Terrence’s mom passed away back in Aus, we couldn’t afford to all go back, so we gave all our savings to come, once we were starting to get some momentum, Covid hit just as we had started meetings and they were growing.
We also ended up having our trailer stolen with all our equipment, there have been many challenges BUT I know we are meant to be here, and the rewards outlay the challenges.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write songs, I still do some TV work, but mainly I lead our church with Terrence, I preach, I teach, and I work with the logistics and the operations and the community outreach.
What are your plans for the future?
People continue to come each Sunday, they meet Jesus, they experience healing, and continue to see their lives changed just like mine was and my prayer is that would continue.
