Meet Francisco Espinosa of The Bec Group Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francisco Espinosa.

Hi Francisco, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Bec started over 45 years ago when my father started the construction company. I began working on his construction projects at age 13 as my summer job and continued working throughout college learning the construction business from laborer to estimator and superintendent.

After graduating from Barry University in 1991 with a degree in business I opened my own construction company. In 1997, I rejoined my father to open The Bec Group Services Inc to operate both as a General Contractor and a real estate development company. In 2008, after my fathers, retirement my current partner, Oscar Moreno, a Colombian architect joined the company.

To date, BEC has built over $700 Million in construction projects from public schools, office buildings, multifamily projects, and mix-use commercial buildings throughout Florida. Currently, we are expanding heavily into real estate development with four new mix-use multifamily projects in our pipeline in Miami, Hialeah, Sarasota, and Orlando.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Construction and Real estate development are never smooth businesses.

We have had to contend with changing economic conditions like the financial crisis we experienced from 2008 to 2009 which brought down the entire real estate industry and severely affected South Florida for several years.

We weathered the storm by working with our financial partners and lenders to rework our outstanding loans.

We, in turn, expanded our real estate business into purchasing distressed assets which were either remodeled and sold or we created a rent and hold a portfolio of multifamily properties.

We’ve been impressed with The Bec Group Services, Inc, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are an experienced General Contractor operating in Florida since 1974. We take great pride in our work and always provide excellent, high-quality work at a reasonable price, coupled with outstanding customer service. Our relationship with our clients is paramount to us.

Our client’s vision and goals become ours. We specialize in meeting demanding budgets and deadlines and are available to our clients twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Bec Group is dedicated to a level of service that is unmatched, while our attention to detail and reliability ensure we exceed our clients’ expectations on every project.

We at BEC have experience in building all property types from industrial warehouses, office buildings, medical buildings, governmental projects, residential, and multifamily projects.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe mentorship and apprenticeship are critical to the learning curve for eventually owning your own business and your success.

There is nothing more valuable in business and in life than experience. If you want to be successful at both you have to be humble and willing to listen to anyone that can teach you something or has a better idea.

I am an optimist and believe people are inherently good and willing to help others. My advice is to seek out those you identify with the qualities of success and experience and work with them.
