Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Williams. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Brian Williams, (born February 5, 1994, Statesboro, Georgia, U.S.) is, a Central African-American rapper, sound engineer, and photographer who began his musical journey in early 2007 and transformed it into a career as a solo artist.
Brian Williams, the child of a hip-hop artist and a college graduate mother grew up in Hawkinsville and attended Middle Georgia State University for four years obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in communications. Early in his career, he utilized his god-given skills to produce beats with FL studio.
Although he was tremendously talented, he struggled with self-esteem and acceptance from people in his hometown due to his reputation as an intelligent black male. As the years passed, Brian Williams aka Psychogen began studying the art of hip-hop.
One of his main influences growing up was Chicago native Kanye West. Brian always admired the way that Kanye sampled old-school soul and incorporated it into hip-hop beats. The album that influenced Brian to take his craft more seriously is 808’s and Heartbreak by Kanye West.
While many were confused at this new sound, Psychogen took an interest in the sound and molded himself as an artist. In 2013, Psychogen quickly began a sensation in the social media world. He teamed up with California native Carigamist on his single “Bad Guys”.
This song quickly spread across the underground scene and people were recognizing the talent that Psychogen possessed. This collaboration led him to work with artists such as Freddie X, Jaylon Ballard, Azazus, and many more.
As his internet presence began to rise, he continued to collaborate with artists throughout the nation. In 2015, Psychogen teamed up with recording artist Anire Okene to create a song of unification for Africans throughout the diaspora titled Society.
This song inspired pan Africans worldwide, it was amazing to see two black men in different parts of the world collaborate in an extraordinary fashion. This collaboration would lead to a shift in his music. In mid-2016, Psychogen teamed up with Azazus in Gainesville, FL at different venues to promote his musical talent. This was Psychogen’s first actual paid performance.
As Psychogen displayed his talent on stage, he built a fan base in the city of Gainesville, FL. This dynamic duo continued until spring 2017. Psychogen decided to take some time off to study the quickly shifting music industry that he was entering.
While Psychogen studied the game, he still was recording music. He released his first solo single Kvtvna exclusively on Apple Music, Spotify, and many other streaming platforms. While the song didn’t receive much attention, it was a good start.
On June 8, 2018, Psychogen released his 2nd single TFRA which was produced by widely respected Vienna native Jason Baker, who worked with Blac Youngsta, Key Glock, Lil Yachty, Quavo, and many more artists. The song quickly began to receive attention.
While the song was receiving feedback and plays, Psychogen began planning the music video. The video was supposed to be released shortly after the single release but was delayed numerous times due to Psychogen’s creative vision.
The video consisted of dark imagery relating to the treatment of African-Americans in the United States. Although many individuals in his corner didn’t think it was a good plan, Psychogen continued with his creative expression. He channels the NFL in the treatment of Colin Kaepernick by kneeling at the end of his TFRA video which was released on December 31, 2018.
The video has taken the internet by storm and continues to gain feedback on the controversial topic of racism. Starting off the year 2019 with a banger single “Still at War” with New Jersey native Kasinova Tha Don, Psychogen aims to take this hip-hop scene by storm.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
