Conversations with Gabby Torres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabby Torres.

Gabby, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is Gabby and I am originally from Brazil but moved to Boston, MA when I was 7. My fiancé Sarah and I moved to St Pete, FL 3 years ago and we absolutely love it here!

I started my photography journey by working in different Public Relations and Marketing firms. I basically got handed a camera and was told that I would have to plan vision boards, and direct, shoot and edit our own content for social media posts. I honestly had no idea what I was doing and would only shoot using auto.

It wasn’t until the pandemic started that I started to realize that I hated waking up every day knowing that I’d have to go to work doing Public Relations and working for someone else. I quit my job and went back to working in the restaurant industry.

I bought my first camera and decided that 2020 was going to be a year of lessons and learning. With the support, of my fiancé, my family, and friends, I started to grow my business – which is now named Torres Broderick Media and is owned by myself and my fiancé, Sarah, who is our client relations and business manager. We are growing faster and faster, working with clients such as Tampa Bay’s Metro Magazine and Raymond James.

We hope to fully dedicate ourselves to weddings and events but we also are open to doing smaller projects. They say you won’t work a day in your life if you do what you love and I think for the first time ever, I actually believe that and am doing exactly what I am meant to be doing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some struggles along the way have been growing my clientele while serving on the side to make money.

This has been the first year that I feel confident about quitting my side job and having our business as my only income, but the last couple of years have been filled with a little anxiety and fear of failure.

I’m starting to feel less of the imposter syndrome and more confident with my ability to make it in this industry.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We currently are specializing in weddings, portraits, and events.

I love capturing love, people, and candid moments. Something that sets my work apart from others is that I have more of a photojournalistic mixed with a fine art style – as well as a cinematic approach to my edits.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I’m always open to collaborating with other creatives on passion projects but the best way people can support us and our business is by sharing our work, booking us, and referring us to friends. We want to be completely booked and busy, as most business owners do.

We are a women and LGBTQ-owned business!
