Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice Hicks.
Hi Maurice, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Goulds and started a label called Jungle records it ended with a life lesson and I moved to Atlanta, Georgia started Semiyayo Music LLC. I recorded songs traveled on tours hype man and opened up for names like PSC young Dro and others. Features with Mac boney of PSC, young dro of PSC Blackchild of murderinc, oj the juiceman and more
I got with a casting company Central Casting of Georgia and started doing background acting jobs did background work on the falcon and the winter soldier on Disney plus (Anthony Mackie) Ptolemy Grey on apple plus (Samuel I. Jackson), Atlanta TV series, and The Game TV series. Now, I’ve signed on and received A script for “The World Is Yours” as the updated Haitian scarface remake which will be filmed in Miami Florida this summer of 2022.
I also have a new single coming out called 4 me I represent Miami everywhere I go and incorporate Miami culture in everything I do. I am Miami and I want more young people in Miami to know they can make it in Miami be anything in life they choose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So many ups and downs from losing my partner Anthony Williams to prison, being homeless, sleeping in my car a few nights, and not having enough funds to promote buy & materials, etc.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known in Miami for a music single years ago by Jungle boys. Jungle records “stop drop and roll”. I have music out now on all music platforms. I’m most proud of how my acting career is taking off and my first big lead movie role.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
My children’s family and changing the generational wealth of my family.
