Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Jones.
Hi Tia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tia Jones and I’m 24 years old. Born and raised in Miami-Dade County. I was raised by my grandparents and attended Miami Central Senior Highschool. If I had to describe myself then, I would just say I was that quiet girl in school with a few friends. I recently graduated from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) in 2020 with my Bachelors Degree in Psychology.
If there is one thing I am certain of, it’s understanding the struggle to live in today’s economy. To be more specific, in Miami. I’m not the designer type of girl now because growing up, my family wasn’t as fortunate as others to afford those things. However, I quickly learned it didn’t enhance anything more about my looks and etc. As long as the outfit was cute to me, it worked and I was satisfied. I wanted to create my business for women like me to look cute and trendy while still being able to afford other important things. A woman should feel confident and beautiful about their purchases…
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Initially, things were running smooth. I was selling out of my items quick and was frequently asked to restock my sold-out inventory. Recently, I noticed things slowed down so I decided to take this time to re-evaluate. Took a step back to see what needed to be changed, consider and take action on constructive criticism and rebrand for 2022.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I am a supervisor and counselor at Miami Job Corps for their Female dorm on campus. Assisting those women who are facing tough obstacles within education and the workforce. I would love to further my career in Mental Health counseling for the inner city community. At the age of 24, I’m definitely proud of the experience and accomplishments I have gained so far at this young age. Graduating from FAMU with an offer to mentor and tutor inner-city students was such a blessing. This also gave me the motivation for my business. Everyone isn’t as fortunate as others and I wanted people to know I understood exactly that.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be my Auntie Pam’s random beach days. They were never planned and if my siblings, cousins and I wanted to just up and randomly go, it was never a “no”. It can be close to sundown and she would make sure we at least get to see the sunset. She made sure that it was possible for us. She was our getaway. I miss her dearly. May she Rest In Peace.
