Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Reinoso.
Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My passion for music started when I was around 12 years old. Since Venezuela, my father would always be blasting to music in the living room and so I basically grew up around it. My father bought a small and old mixer just for decoration and so I was really curious as to how to use it. After many failed attempts and weeks of frustration, I started to get the hang of it, all by myself. I began to download music and burn them into CDs (mind you I was 12-13 at the time). Basically, I was in charge of the music for every family and friends reunion. A couple of years after we moved to Miami and that’s where I started to think, “if I would have made that song I would have changed this, or change that.. maybe add a different drum, etc..) that’s when I began by doing mashups, then remixes until eventually, I released my first single. By the age of 16, almost 17 my cousin Orestes “Oreo” which was a promoter at the time got me my first gig at an actual nightclub in Downtown Miami called “Heart Nightclub ”. from there everything just started to roll by itself, getting booked to other places in Brickell like ”W Rooftop, La V Nightclub and Blume Nightclub” or in Wynwood like Racket and The Dirty Rabbit, all the way to Club Space and Wall Nightclub. Currently, I have also being able to play shows in different states like LA, Atlanta and Houston and in this year I had my first Show internationally in Cancun Mexico, Besides the DJ point of view I have been also able to collaborate with many artists and in the pursuit of my own sound I had released many tracks from different styles, releasing songs in labels like “Squad Recordings and Shine Recordings” I would say this is just the beginning and there is still a lot of work to do
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe overall it has not been the smoothest road but thankfully I have around my family and some friends that have always supported me since the beginning of this journey. It is a constant battle, from the beginning was the frustration of not knowing the skills and the fear of messing up in public to even learn how to produce and find my sound. There were times where I would not be booked for months and it was frustrating because there was only so much I could do at the time. It is also very competitive and even tiring. Leaving family reunions early just because you have a show that same night or being tired the next day because you had 2 shows the same day but have to wake up early to do errands or even school and work.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a DJ and Music Producer. I specialize in making house music and that is also what I am known for. I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that I have actually worked with many artists and actually produced songs from different genres, so ultimately I have been doing a blend of styles for every song, I have made moombahton, to commercial dance music all the way to Electro and Tech House. Like for example on my latest single “On My Mind” I did my tech house style but blended with Future Rave synths and drums. It is something completely new for me and people seem to like it a lot. And what I am proud of the most is being able to represent the Hispanic culture and being able to do it with what I love, going to different cities playing my music and started to being recognized. But what I am proud of the most is the fact that I have met amazing people because of this industry and there is nothing that I would change about it.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Well, I can say that basically my career is based on taking risks all the time. For starters, you are risking the fact of having a stable office job for pursuing your dreams. It takes time and that is something you cannot take back. Some people are not willing to risk the fact of losing time of their lives and will possibly not make it because it is not easy. There is also the risk you take when making a song. It is also time invested and money for videos or studio time but the song might not be a hit like most of the time. Some people are just not sure to spend thousands of dollars in gear, music, videos, and promotions without having a guarantee that they will make it back. All I can say is that this industry is all about risk, if you are not a risk taker this is definitely the wrong place for you.
