Today we’d like to introduce you to Mr.305 History.
Hi Mr.305 History, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I run a History page about Miami & I think my love & pride for the city started in elementary school. I had hoop dreams of playing in the NBA & I loved watching the Miami Heat. When Trick dropped his single “Nann”, that was big for the city, it put Miami on the map with a different sound other than Bass music. That pride built up throughout the years and played a big role in sparking my curiosity to find out some history about Miami. I’d drive through the city and be curious on names of streets, cities, schools, etc. I would Google a lot. Once the quarantine hit in 2020, I was bored & thought to start a page to showcase this Miami history that schools don’t teach. I also wanted to showcase the contributions Miami has made to popular culture like film, music & sports. Since most people think learning history is boring, I decided to make the content a little more entertaining to keep followers engaged.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think life is never a smooth road. A good support system makes it easier to keep on pushing through. One significant event that I kind of struggled with was moving to Atlanta in 2015. My family still lives in Miami so I’m always back and forth but when I visited Miami, I didn’t want to leave. When I would come back to Atlanta though I would grow a deeper appreciation for the city. All the cultures living in harmony (sometimes) in one space made me realize that there isn’t anywhere in the world like Miami. Miami is what America should look like. If I didn’t move to Atlanta, I probably would’ve never started 305HISTORY. It was a blessing in disguise. The page makes me feel even more connected to the city than when I lived there. It feels like I never left.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
305 History is an educational & entertainment page. We share interesting facts and vintage videos/photos of Miami. What I’m most proud of is when my followers learn something from my page. I’ve received messages from followers thanking me for the knowledge I share. Prominent people from Miami have told me they appreciate my page and that’s always rewarding. I feel what sets us apart from other Miami pages is the diversity of my followers. It matches the diversity of the city.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
305HISTORY merch will be available soon. We’re also looking to expand the brand in different ways like promotions, documentaries, music, maybe a podcast. If it makes sense, feels organic and on brand, we’ll consider it. Our goal is to use different mediums to teach as many people as we can the history the beautiful city of Miami has.
