Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Stephanie Thomas. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Dr. Stéphanie Thomas is a General Dentist Licensed in the state of Florida since 2017. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University in 2011 where she obtained her Bachelor of Sciences in Biology and attended the University of New York University College of Dentistry in Manhattan NYC, earning her Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 2017. Professional membership includes the American Dental Association, Association of Black Women Dentists, Florida Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry. Women in Medicine (Top Dentist). She also meets monthly and mentor undergraduates who wish to pursue a career in Dentistry Medicine has played a huge role in her family, growing up in Haiti her dad an Orthopedic Surgeon and her mother an Oral Maxillo Facial Surgeon. She had both worlds; as a young girl, she enjoyed those times in her mother’s world, her expertise in the field and her “dexterity” always impressed her. To this day, she can recall the many smiles that she brought to her patients. Some would hug her, others would return to the office with little gifts, grateful for the work she had done for them. She was greatly touched by how happy her mother would make them and how they would in turn show their appreciation. Right then and there, as young as six years old she knew this was her calling as well.
Following her mother’s footsteps and belief in giving back to the community, Dr. Stéphanie has provided dental needs for give back a Smile to Veterans, Special Needs Patients participants a volunteer organization providing community services to promote oral health. Dr. Stéphanie’s practice Desired DentalMed Services located at 3939 Hollywood Bvld suite 3B includes all aspects of adult and pediatric general dentistry including dental hygiene, fillings, crowns, veneers, teeth whitening, oral cancer screenings, dentures, emergency dentistry & more.
She loves spending time with her family, niece and nephew Jaydah and Jayden. Her hobbies are outdoors, playing her violin, dancing folklore, writing poetry, interior designing she enjoys traveling, road trips and photographing her adventures.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I grew up in Delmas 75 a Haitian suburb in Port-au-Prince populated by middle to upper class families, where people worked hard, sent their children to best schools and enjoyed a life somewhat sheltered from that poverty that surrounded us. However, we shared many Haitian hardships. Electricity was scarce; with the political difficulties, there were days that I feared going to school for being a target during violent manifestation. I remembered my house looked like a prison with barbed wires and wrought iron surrounding every door and window. We fled from Haiti Friday July 27th, 2001, forced to become immigrants for the pursuit of brighter, safer future. My mother gave up her practice, and I had to share some of the financial burden. What would I do? At thirteen, I discovered the importance of long rehearsal hours, and music would become a source of income. I started playing the violin at age four and had to endure the pain of long practice hours. I hated weekends because instead of watching television, I had to practice the violin. Needing income it provided the inspiration for opening the first music school in Spring Valley, New York where my sister and I taught the violin. My experiences shaped my perspective towards people and life. In my life, I have noticed that winning usually follows sacrifices.
