Exploring Life & Business with Giselle Loor of B+G Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giselle Loor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got started in the interior design industry when I was just 21 years old. I started at a large design firm as a coordinator and fell in love with design. I went to school while I worked full time, not easy!

While I was with the company, I did purchasing, project managing, coordinating and design- you name it I did it. Little did I know at the time this would be the foundation for owning my own Interior design business.

After working with the firm for almost ten years, it was time to go on our own. Brett and I started B+G Design in 2006.

While I raised my family, our offices were in Hollywood & Fort Lauderdale to be near the kid’s school, but my heart was in Miami. Now, that the kids are off to college, we moved our home and office to Miami. We sold our home, designed and built our condo and offices all during the height of the pandemic.

We are excited to have our office open in the Quadro building- steps from the Miami Design District in the next few months. We also have another venture that we will be announcing soon! This is a really exciting time for us personally and professionally.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Working full-time and going to college while being married to my first husband was extremely challenging in my early twenties. Long hours at the office and balancing school was hard. Deep down, I believed I had found my calling and it would be worth it. And it was!

While working in my entry position back then, I would hurry  to complete my work so that I could help the lead designer select materials. Anything to get more experience and exposure. Looking back, my drive was fierce and still is.

The next big challenge I faced was only a year after we opened our business.

The recession of 2007! We had to fight to survive. We saw so many businesses go under and while going through divorces and raising kids under the age of 3. I believed in our combined talent and newfound love for my husband, Brett Sugerman. It was what kept me going through some dark times. I’m happy to say we will be married 15 years this year and celebrated working together 21 years. The struggles we endured together has only made our relationship both personally and  professionally that much stronger.

The latest challenge has been during Covid. We had to transform our business to keep up with the limitations of doing business while moving our home, business,  and getting our sons settled into college.

We’ve been impressed with B+G Design inc, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
B+G Design was founded in 2006 by myself & Brett Sugerman. We specialize in turn key high end residential & hospitality.

We create warm, modern bespoke environments that encompass lighting design, interior architecture, custom mill work and custom furnishings.

What sets us apart is our many years of combined experience. We design all of our projects together. Our clients get the male and female perspective.

I am an empath. When I design for our clients it’s much more then what I see or hear but what I feel. That in combination with Brett’s architectural knowledge makes us an amazing design team.

We pride ourselves in working with the same families for years.

We have clients on their  5th, 6th and 11th projects. We designed homes for cleints in Aspen, Washington D.C. and North Carolina to name a select few.

We travel the world, attend trades shows, and are always educating ourselves on the latest and greatest in our industry. We believe great design is not just making an environment beautiful, but also healthy.
