Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Blanco.
Liz, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Venezuela but currently living in Miami. I still remember the day I arrived in Miami. It was on the 4th of July in 2013. Very patriotic day! I came with my husband and my Puerto Rican dog after living five years in San Juan – Puerto Rico. All these moves from one city to another were because of my corporate job. I’ve been working with the same company for almost 19 years. It is a global technology company that encourages people to travel and to live in different places if there’s an opportunity available waiting for you.
I have a Business Management colleague degree, but I have been a restless passionate advocate about living a healthy lifestyle and finding your balance between body, mind, and spirit, especially for those women who work for big companies where stress is part of their daily life.
During my 19+ years in the corporate world, I realize that there are many of us who suffer from stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic fatigue, which trigger many other diseases and high rates of obesity. I experienced high levels of stress and anxiety at different moments in my professional career, and these resulted in respiratory allergies and some episodes of depression. That’s when all these questions started to pop up in my head “Why am I feeling like this?” “Why am I feeling sick, tired, and sad all the time?” and “How can I heal myself?”
All these questions led to a deep inner exploration not only to find the cause of my sicknesses but more important to find the cure. This curiosity opened my horizons to learn new things and explore new studies that led me to the root of the problem which was “the anxiety”. This is how I decided to become in 2018 a certified Nutrition Health Coach by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York and got a certification in 2020 from Cornell University in “Nutrition and Healthy Living”.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and I will tell you why because you must fight with your Ego and beliefs. The idea of starting new studies from scratch after your mid-thirties is scary and requires a lot of willpower and sacrifices. Especially if you are still working in your corporate job and you have only weeknights and weekends available. This means that you must manage very well your time and have the discipline to do whatever it takes to block your agenda, sit down and study.
The thing starts to get even more complicated when you found out that those studies are not only bringing you the answers you were looking for and healing you from the inside out, but also you have finally discovered your real passion while transitioning through your own journey. And that passion turned out to be your purpose in life.
You just want to talk only about that, to deepen your knowledge by studying more and more, and helping as many people as possible throughout the process. Wow! That’s when things turned out to get really complicated. You realize that you want to transform this passion into a business, and that’s when the entrepreneurial behavior starts to grow within you.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work with those women who want to decrease stress and anxiety through a healthy lifestyle, so they can live an amazing life at their full potential. Especially those who struggle with endless cravings, which is a consequence of their anxiety. Those women who have tried it all have loosened some weight but end up gaining those pounds again because the anxiety comes back into their lives. I also work with those emotional eaters who are constantly seeking on their plates what they cannot find in their lives.
I’ve been on this mission for four years now, and I have never felt more passionate and happier in my life. I’ve been teaching, coaching, and supporting more than hundreds of women around the world throughout the execution of different wellness programs like detoxing and stress relief, green juices for cravings, group coaching, eBooks, and much more.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Meditation, morning pages, affirmations, regular exercises, and healthy meals are my go-to kit to feel my best. I won’t be able to help other people or talk about stress relief if I’m stressed all the time. You must walk the talk. Some apps for meditation that I would recommend is the one called “Calm”. It has a subscription fee but it’s totally worth it. It also offers some meditations for free.
I recommend two books that changed my life, one is called “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” and the “Artist Way”. The first one written by Robin Sharma is a self-help book in which you can find too many lessons to incorporate into your life. The second one is a book written by Julia Cameron who teaches you to increase your creativity while decreasing anxiety. This book was the one teaching me the ‘Morning Pages” technique, which is one of the tools that I absolutely adore for stress relief.
I would also recommend the Health Coach certification program of the Institute I graduated from if you want to make a real difference in the people’s lives who surrounded you and if you also want “to improve health and happiness and create a ripple effect that transforms the world.” That is the mission of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York.
